What kid doesn’t want a day off from school?
And with the State Fair of Texas getting into full swing, lots of area students will get a day off to explore all the fun the fair has to offer. Additionally, many local districts get Monday, Oct. 8 – that’s Columbus Day – as a holiday.
The upshot: On certain days, there will be a lot of young people at the State Fair of Texas. Be aware of this as you plan your State Fair visit. High volumes of visitors of all ages are expected to attend the fair on Columbus Day.

State Fair rider tips to see how you can have a smooth DART experience on your way to and from the fair.
Students, of course, receive special rates on the DART System. However, this does not necessarily apply to all students. Here’s how it breaks down:
- Children under age 5 ride for free when accompanied by a fare-paying adult. The limit is two children per adult.
- Children ages 5-14 qualify for Reduced Fare. For a Local Day Pass, that’s $3.
- To get a Reduced fare, high school students must have a valid student ID from a school within the DART Service Area – or a valid, DART-issued student ID. If you don’t have one, visit org’ s high school student page for more info. High school students are eligible for Reduced fares seven days a week.
Enjoy your visit to the State Fair of Texas, and happy Columbus Day!
