If you find yourself needing a haircut, good company or just a warm welcome, Oak Cliff Barbers offers a down-to-earth atmosphere, with roots in Oak Cliff’s Hispanic community.
A block away from the Route 542 Davis at Edgefield bus stop, the barber shop serves a multicultural area and offers a family welcome to new customers.
“It’s just part of the neighborhood,” owner Joe Torres said about the shop. “We stay true to our roots and traditions, which means treating everyone with respect.”
All the barbers in the shop come from Hispanic backgrounds, as do most of the shop’s clients. The shop serves its diverse community and caters to everyone from 9 months old to 90 years old.
Torres described the shop as “homely.” It’s a place that’s like a family to its customers.
Older clients who come into the shop share their wisdom and give their outlook on life and culture.
After almost 20 years of working in the business, Torres said he has seen children of his customers graduate from high school, and those children eventually have children of their own.
“No matter how much the neighborhood changes, I don’t think we’re ever going to change,” he said. “We’ll be the same as day one.”
