Happy New Year! The first weekend of 2020 brings DARTable happenings and your last chance to catch several seasonal delights. Check out where DART can take you:

Friday, Jan. 3

The Color of Death! is full of intrigue and skullduggery – if that word means what we think it means. This weekend, all tickets are $10 off. The play's first act is in “Living Black & White,” which mimics the look of a classic noir movies. The second is in the Technicolor hues of ’50s and ’60s films. Harry Hunsacker, private detective, goes undercover to infiltrate a Nazi research lab. Stuff gets real, and life-or-death situations happen in this campy thriller at the Eisemann Center. It’s just across the plaza from the Galatyn Park Station on the Red Line. You can catch it through Jan. 19.

Saturday, Jan. 4

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Las Colinas is the perfect DARTable cinematic escape. Not only is it a short walk from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station, it’s attached to the Toyota Music Factory – meaning numerous entertainment, dining and nightlife options are a few steps from the theater. Of course, you can dine and enjoy a beer or cocktail at the Alamo Drafthouse, too, and take your pick of the coolest current releases. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the crowd-pleaser in the bunch. The final installation of the “Skywalker Saga” has all the elements you’ve come to expect: revenge, droids, uncharted planets and even the posthumous presence of Carrie Fisher.

Sunday, Jan 5

A trio of holiday-themed displays closes after today.

Dallas Zoo Lights has a million lights, plus dozens of animal-shaped light sculptures and lanterns, that bring the grounds spectacularly to life. This evening is your last chance this season to catch the beautiful display, steps from Dallas Zoo Station on the Red Line.

The Trains at North Park is an annual tradition at NorthPark Center.  More than 750 railcars run on a third of a mile of track through model versions of Dallas skyline, New York City, New England, Mount Rushmore and many other iconic landscapes. Take this last opportunity of the year to see it just a short shuttle ride away (Route 702) from the Red Line’s Park Lane Station.

Holiday in the National Parks: Christmas in the White House 2007 lets you see what the holiday season is like when you’re president: pretty grand, as you might guess, with lots of gold ribbons, flowers and a tree that definitely didn’t come from a supermarket parking lot. The special exhibit at the George W. Bush Presidential Center also celebrates the great landscapes and historical sites of America. You’ll see models of the Alamo, the Frederic Douglass House, Spanish missions and more. The Bush Center/Meadows Museum Shuttle (Route 743) will take you the rest of the way from Mockingbird Station. You can even walk, if the weather’s nice.
