Live, DARTable music abounds this weekend, along with Juneteenth celebrations and theater. Read on for a few of this weekend’s DARTable offerings.
Friday, June 13
Parade of Playhouses is Dallas CASA’s celebration of imagination that helps support children living in foster care. The event features nearly a dozen one-of-a-kind creations, custom-designed by architects and builders. See The Lorax’s house, a historical home, a beachside cottage, and many more works of art. You can do so through June 29 at NorthPark Center. To get there, take the Red or Orange line to Park Lane Station, and catch the NorthPark Shuttle (bus route 402).
Coco Jones comes to Dallas in support of her debut album, Why Not More? See the singer-songwriter at House of Blues, walkable from West End Station on all four DART Rail lines.
The Head and the Heart brings their brand of indie folk to the South Side Ballroom in support of their new album, Aperture. Joining them: Futurebirds and Anna Graves. The venue is a short walk from Cedars Station on the Red and Blue lines.
Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat is the first collaboration between the illustrious duo of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The Broadway classic tells the journey of the Bible’s Joseph, his 12 brothers, and his coat of many colors. Experience it through July 13 at the Wyly Theatre. That’s walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.
An Iliad is a modern-day retelling of Homer's classic. Poetry, humor, the ancient Trojan War and the modern world come together to create a fascinating evening of theater. Immerse yourself in the timeless world of Homer through June 29 at Undermain Theatre, walkable from Baylor University Medical Center Station on the Green Line.
Saturday, June 14
Juneteenth Celebration is Plano’s event featuring speakers and historians – not to mention smooth Jazz and R&B, line dancing, food, kid’s activities, and more. Check it out at Haggard Park, right next to the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station.
Juneteenth is also celebrated in Garland, where emancipation is commemorated with live entertainment. Indulge in food from local downtown restaurants, explore the children's activity area, and reflect on the day's historical significance. The event takes place in the Garland City Square, walkable from Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.
Babymetal comes to Irving in support of their new album, Metal Forth. See the Japanese metal band at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, walkable from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station.
Paula Poundstone is an iconic comedian, known for her smart, observational humor and spontaneous wit. She has starred in numerous HBO specials, is a regular panelist on NPR’s comedy news quiz, Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!, and can be heard weekly on her own comedy podcast. Tonight, she comes to the Eisemann Center, right across the plaza from Galatyn Park Station on the Red Line.
