Do you know the latest on our new regional rail line? In our Flash Update Series, Part 2, DART is ready to announce some exciting updates and progress on the Cotton Belt! Check out the info below to see where we are on the Cotton Belt. The Cotton Belt is a regional rail line serving seven cities between the DFW Airport and Shiloh Road in Plano. This will better connect the northern part of the DART Service Area to the rest of the region, increasing mobility and access to employment, services, and businesses.
  • The Cotton Belt has completed the latest round of Community Meetings and Open Houses. DART is bringing North Texans the latest information on route maps, environmental impacts, and where we are in the process for making the Cotton Belt a reality for North Texas.
  • DART is collaborating with corridor city staffs and conducting continuing discussions with communities located along the Cotton Belt Rail Corridor to discuss potential environmental impacts.
  • On September 12, the DART Board approved new debt resolutions providing funding mechanisms for the Cotton Belt and D2. DART will seek funding for the Cotton Belt through a low-interest loan from the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing (RRIF). This low-interest loan is dedicated to commuter rail and freight projects, just like the Cotton Belt.
A Railway Line to Connect Our Region The planning process for large transit projects, like the Cotton Belt, is an iterative one.  DART seeks to work with a variety of stakeholders, from the folks living along the rail corridor, to the government officials in each of the six towns along the Cotton Belt. Together, we can create transit solutions that best balance everyone’s interests and bring the greatest benefits to our region. Stay tuned to get the latest project development updates on the Cotton Belt!
