Ride DART to the city of Richardson’s road reveal event, taking place from 4-6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at Arapaho Center Station, and view bike and pedestrian improvements to Greenville Avenue.

Enjoy free Kona Ice snow cones, collect partner giveaways, watch demonstrations on how to load a bike onto a DART bus and give feedback on the new changes.

The city of Richardson worked with the nonprofit, Better Block Foundation, to install these improvements, which include temporary bike lanes between Campbell Road and Jackson Street. In addition, they installed a temporary crosswalk between the Arapaho Center Station parking lot and station platform.

While you’re there, don’t miss the inaugural bike ride, which takes place at 6 p.m. Members of the city’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee encourage you to participate and will lead the bike ride using the new lanes.

The temporary improvements will be up for about 60 days. After that, the Richardson City Council will decide on the success of the project and determine if certain components should be permanent. If successful, the lanes and crosswalk could be permanent by July 2020.

The effort is known as the Greenville Avenue Mobility Improvements and is part of a mobility study that seeks to make the Collins/Arapaho Transit-Oriented Development and Innovation District more bike- and pedestrian-friendly.

The Greenville Avenue project received funding through an AARP Community Challenge Program grant. Also, the Made To Move grant from Degree  and Blue Zones will fund the project next year.

To attend the event on Greenville Avenue, ride the Red or Orange Line to Arapaho Center Station in Richardson.

If you are unable to make the event, but have experienced the new bike and pedestrian improvements, feel free to provide more feedback with an online survey at www.cor.net/greenville.
