On Oct. 7, from 7-10 a.m., locals from Dallas, Farmers Branch, Rowlet and Richardson will have the opportunity to sit down, chitchat and drink a cup of coffee with a DART Police officer in their community. This year, the Unites States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Services partnered with the Hawthorne Police Department in California to initiate Friday Oct. 7, 2016, as the first National Coffee with a Cop Day. The day aims to break barriers between police departments and the citizens they serve by focusing on building trust between law enforcement and communities and by providing a way for police officers and citizens to casually interact with one another.
