Dallas Black Dance Theatre is one of our region’s cultural gems. Since 1976, the company has been presenting contemporary modern dance programs – as well as jazz, ballet and ethnic works – at an elevated level, often featuring internationally known choreographers.
On Feb. 17-18, celebrate Black History Month by checking out the esteemed company’s Cultural Awareness show. The game of life is reflected in dance through the games we play and the history we preserve.
The program features:
- Games by Donald McKayle, a modern dance classic which concerns the joys and terrors of childhood.
- Tribute by Matthew Rushing of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, a piece that pays homage to the classics of modern dance.
- Shatter, the world premiere of Gregory Dolbashian’s vibrant exploration of human behavior.
- Swipe Left, Sean J. Smith’s take on love in the dating-app age, also a world premiere.
The performances start at 7:30 p.m. and take place at the Wyly Theatre, a few blocks from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines. There are also on-demand and streaming options available.
