As we look back on DART's 40-year history, we celebrate both our early years and our more recent accomplishments.

In September 1984, DART began express bus service between downtown Dallas and Plano and added local bus service a year later. In 1989, DART opened the West Plano Transit Center (now named for community leader Jack Hatchell), followed by the East Plano Transit Center in 1992. The latter would become the location of the future Parker Road Station on the Red Line, which opened in December 2002, along with Downtown Plano Station. In 2012, DART opened the Northwest Plano Park & Ride, a bus-only facility designed to serve the westernmost area of the city.

Today, Plano has two light rail stations, two park-and-ride facilities, six bus routes, and six GoLink zones. DART Rail helped spark a renaissance in the city’s historic downtown, attracting several mixed-use apartment communities, condos, shops, art galleries, restaurants, and regular community programming. Today, DART is building two Silver Line stations at Shiloh Road and 12th Street, and the agency will also construct its first aerial infill station at 12th Street Station.
