Get on board for some fun this Easter weekend! Yep, we’re plugging National Get on Board Day, which happens April 25. Surprised? From musical mash-ups, to a LEGO® rendering of "Starry Night," to a real-life Dreamgirl in the flesh, you don’t have to hunt too hard to find cool happenings on the DART System. But will you find Easter eggs hidden on your DART train? (Spoiler alert: No. You won’t.)

Party on the Plaza is a recurring event every Friday and Saturday from 8-11 p.m. at Irving’s Toyota Music Factory. Tonight, DJSC brings his genre-defying mix of electro, rock, country and hip-hop to the Texas Lottery Plaza. Does he pull it off? Well, we’re sure he’s not the official DJ of the Dallas Cowboys for nothing. Afterwards, there are plenty of diversions inside the venue to keep your groove going – bars, restaurants, etc. It’s unlikely any of them play both electro and country music. But it’s possible! The Music Factory is a short walk from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station.

Saturday, April 20

Jennifer Hudson will appear with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in a special, one-night only event at the Meyerson Symphony Center. The Grammy and Academy Award-winning singer and actress puts her soul – and considerable pipes – into a powerhouse program that will include hits from the film "Dreamgirls", as well as some of her well-known originals. The Meyerson is about a 6-minute walk from Pearl/Arts District Station, served by all four DART Rail lines.

Downtown Sessions provides an evening of jazz under the springtime stars this evening when Thaddeus Ford headlines this cool series in Plano’s McCall Plaza. Ford is an accomplished trumpet player who gigs all over the world – he’s fresh off a three-month residency in Shanghai – and he’s served as a side man for some pretty big names. Fillmore Pub will be on hand with tasty beverages. The event takes place from 7:30-10:30 p.m. about a block away from Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line. If you want to sit down, you should bring a lawn chair; the surrounding Downtown Plano Arts District has plenty of taverns and eateries where you can take a load off after the show.

Bharat Natyam and Bollywood Dance Show is sure to grab (and hold) your attention: the colorful costumes, exuberant energy and intricate hand gestures of Bollywood will be on vibrant display. You’ve probably seen at least snippets of this modern, cinematic variety of Indian dance. You may not have known that the form is grounded in centuries of classical Indian dance. Prepare to be wowed at Garland’s Plaza Theatre, only about a 4- or 5-minute walk from the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.

The Art of the Brick is not to be missed if you happen to have a LEGO® enthusiast your house. Or even if you don’t. The exhibition at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is full of fascinating constructions made exclusively from the brightly-colored childhood favorite. Artist Nathan Sawaya has created both original pieces and reimagined versions of famous masterpieces, such as Van Gogh's "Starry Night." There are also plenty of building challenges, games and the other interactive stuff we’ve come to expect from the awesome Perot Museum. Take any DART Rail line to West End Station and walk north just a few blocks until you pass under the bridge. To your right, you’ll see the museum – a fascinating construction in its own right. The exhibition runs through Aug. 18.

To create a smoother ride through downtown Dallas and reduce service interruptions, track improvements and rail replacement will begin March 30 and last for roughly six months. During that time, DART Rail in downtown Dallas will be discontinued each weekend between Pearl/Arts District Station and West End Station. Separate shuttle routes will be in operation.
