The Dallas International Guitar Festival kicks off today and runs through Sunday. Musicians, fans, collectors and celebrities will all be in one place to buy, sell, trade or simply check out thousands of guitars. You can find a variety of vintage and new guitars, as well as basses, amps, banjos, mandolins, effects pedals and memorabilia. In addition to the 800 booths, nearly 60 musical acts perform on four stages – including bona fide guitar hero Eric Johnson. The festival takes place at Dallas Market Hall, about a 9- or 10-minute walk from Market Center Station on the Green and Orange lines. 

Saturday, May 4

Taste of Oak Cliff showcases the best of the restaurant-rich neighborhood’s culinary offerings. From haute cuisine to hash houses, the ’Cliff’s got the goods, and today you can sample it all on the corner of 10th Street and South Beckley (and environs). That’s only about a 6-minute walk south of the Dallas Streetcar’s Bishop Arts stop. Expect food trucks and vendors, of course, but also novelty shops, bookstores and other one-of-a-kind establishments that make Oak Cliff what it is. There are more than 80 vendors in all. The event happens from noon to 7 p.m. You can catch the Dallas Streetcar at Union Station. Red and Blue lines as well as the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) service the station. 

May the 4th Be with You is a day dedicated to Star Wars – or, more accurately, Star Wars fans. Head to Downtown Carrollton Station on the Green Line for arcade games, crafts, laser tag, and a screening of The Force Awakens at sunset. You'll find the fun a couple blocks south of the station in the town square. May the Fourth Be with You is a two-day (today and Sunday) extravaganza at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Put on your favorite sci-fi gear and travel to a galaxy far, far away. Enjoy saber battles on the plaza, droid races, virtual reality, performances, character meet-ups and more. Discover the science behind the famous films by exploring robotics, futuristic technology and life on other planets. Don't miss special film showings of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Activities take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday; they're free with general admission. Films require an additional ticket. The Perot Museum is about a 10-minute walk from Victory Station on the Green Line. 

Plano AsiaFest showcases the rich cultures of Earth’s largest continent. You’ve got Japan and Korea in the north; China, Taiwan, and the Philippines to the east; Vietnam and Malaysia in the south; and Bangladesh, India, and Nepal in the southeast. The festival makes for a fun, family-friendly day, with cultural demonstrations, performances, and vendors. There’s also music: Japanese Taiko, the Korean Samulnori, and Chinese drums, all accompanied by graceful dances. Add a fashion show, martial arts and – just as you’d hope – food from all over Asia, and you’ve got a great time in Plano’s Haggard Park. It’s conveniently located right next to Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line. 

Free First Saturdays at the Nasher Sculpture Center presents child-friendly programming from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and free admission until 5 p.m. Create, discover, make new memories together and check out the Nasher’s renowned collection. The venue is in the Dallas Arts District, about a 6- minute walk from St. Paul Station. You can also get there via the M-Line Trolley. 

Spring Main Street Market is a biannual event in the Village of Rowlett Downtown. There are food trucks, shopping, photo-ops and giveaways. The free event takes place from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Village Green, only a 2- or 3-minute walk south of the Blue Line’s Downtown Rowlett Station.

Hamilton gets its last performance today at the Music Hall at Fair Park – and as of press time, there were still tickets left! The wildly popular musical is about one of America's founding fathers, Alexander what’s-his-name (it’s on the tip of our tongue). The play received a record-setting 16 Tony nominations, and won 11, as well as the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Today’s matinee is at 1:30 p.m. Avoid parking hassles and take the Green Line to Fair Park Station.

DART is making major improvements. To create a smoother ride through downtown Dallas and reduce service interruptions, track improvements began March 30 and will last for roughly six months. During that time, DART Rail in Downtown Dallas will be discontinued each weekend between Pearl/Arts District and West End stations. Bus bridges will be in operation.
