Cockrell Hill Passenger Transfer Location

Each month, we will spotlight a city in the DART Service Area and the service that DART provides.

Cockrell Hill is a bedroom community surrounded by Dallas. Following the August 1983 election that created DART, Cockrell Hill joined the transit agency in late 1983.

DART’s Cockrell Hill Passenger Transfer Location (PTL) opened in August 2000. This bus-only facility is at the intersection of S. Cockrell Hill Road and Jefferson Boulevard, which features a roundabout built to facilitate bus and city traffic.

While this transfer location does not offer DART parking, it does provide an air-conditioned, indoor passenger facility that is open during weekday rush hours. Cockrell Hill PTL is one of the busiest in the DART System.

Four DART bus routes serve the city, all of which terminate at the Cockrell Hill Passenger Transfer Location.

  • Routes 9, 25, 221, and 226 have a combined ridership of 509,118 riders in Q4 FY 2023.
  • There were more than 4,300 boardings at the Cockrell Hill PTL in Q4 FY 2023.
  • Routes 25 and 221 give residents easy access to Westmoreland Station, the closest light rail station.
  • Route 25 connects Cockrell Hill, West Dallas’ Pinnacle Industrial Park, and Irving, and many Cockrell Hill residents use DART to travel between these three cities.

The city’s claim to fame is the site of the first performance of legendary blues guitarist, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. He and his brother, Jimmie, performed at the Hill Theater in Cockrell Hill when Vaughan was only 12 years old. The venue burned down decades ago, but when the property went up for sale, the city bought it for a park. Stevie Ray Vaughan Park opened in April 2022 across the street from DART’s facility, and murals on adjacent buildings pay tribute to the musician.

Enrique MacGregor represents the City of Cockrell Hill on the DART Board of Directors. The agency appreciates the past and ongoing support of Mayor Luis Carrera, City Administrator Bret Haney, and the city’s elected officials and staff.
