As we look back on DART's 40-year history, we celebrate both our early years and our more recent accomplishments.

DART formally acquired the Dallas Transit System and its operations from the City of Dallas in February 1988. DART began utility relocation work for the 11-mile transitway mall in the Dallas Central Business District in 1993. In that same year, DART received $82.6 million in federal funding for the South Oak Cliff light rail project. The following year, DART celebrated the opening of the Illinois Transit Center, which was the first bus and rail passenger facility. Growth and expansion of service in Dallas continued over the next decade. In October 2016, new opportunities and destinations arrived when DART Rail's Blue Line was extended by three miles to the new Camp Wisdom and UNT Dallas stations.

Today, there are 52 rail stations, transit centers and transfer locations in Dallas. DART operates 57 bus routes and 13 GoLink zones in the city. Dallas also has three Trinity Railway Express stations: Medical/Market Center Station; Victory Station, and EBJ Union Station.
