Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT) is not only the city’s largest dance company. It’s one of North Texas’ cultural treasures. From Nov. 4-5, catch the troupe’s Director’s Choice performances, presented under the title “Rhythm and Motion Flowing into the Community.”

Boston Ballet company member (and DBDT alum) My’Kal Stromile returns to his old “stomping” grounds with a world premiere. His Baile del Corazón is full of heartfelt, riveting movement. Elisa Monte’s Pigs and Fishes celebrates the simple pleasures in life, while Darrell Grand Moultrie’s Road to One explores the path taken by those who leave a legacy to the world. Rounding out the program, Tommie-Waheed Evans’ Bodies as Site of Faith and Protestbrings the immortal words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to life – and celebrates the awesome self-assertiveness of the transformative Civil Rights leader.

The performances start at 7:30 p.m. and take place at the Wyly Theatre, a few blocks from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines. There are also on-demand and streaming options available.
