Veterans Day parade 11-11-13_12 Veterans Day is Nov. 11 and there are plenty of events happening across North Texas to honor those who sacrificed for your freedom. Note: The 2018 Dallas Veterans Day Parade scheduled for Monday, Nov. 12 has been cancelled due to the weather and safety concerns. Several Veterans Day events will be happening throughout the weekend. DART gets you to each of these. Friday, Nov. 9 The Farmers Branch Veterans Day Celebration takes place at 10:30 a.m. at the Farmers Branch Senior Center, 14055 Dennis Lane. Following a patriotic ceremony, the Victory Belles will perform WWII-era songs, and a hot dog lunch will wrap things up American-style. The venue is a 7-minute walk from the Josey Lane and Valwood Parkway stop on Bus Route 531. Saturday, Nov. 10 Aviation buffs won’t want to miss the 25th Anniversary Open House at Cavanaugh Flight Museum, 4572 Claire Chennault St. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can see, touch and even fly at a discounted rate in many of the museum’s planes. There will be open-cockpit tours of the aircraft, a Sherman tank demonstration and other cool stuff, plus free admission for veterans. Bus Route 534, which travels between Trinity Mills Station and Addison Transit Center, will drop you off an 8-minute walk from the museum – get off at Addison Road and Westgrove Drive. The Rowlett Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. is a gathering to honor those who have served their country. Appropriately, it takes place at Veterans Park, 3900 Main St., just a few hundred feet south of Downtown Rowlett Station. From Saturday through Monday, Veterans Day Weekend at Dallas Arboretum will offer patriotic entertainment and free admission to veterans and active military. In addition to the beauty of the Arboretum in fall, there will be live music at 2 p.m. each day, plus a special performance by the Carswell Air Force Base Choir at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The Garland Road at Lakeland Drive stop on Bus Route 60 is right at the main entrance. Sunday, Nov. 11 Irving Veterans Day Program begins at 2:30 p.m. in the former Central Library auditorium at 801 W. Irving Blvd. There will be music, as well as remarks and reflections by military personnel and city officials. Afterwards, the gathering moves to adjacent Veterans Memorial Park to add a wreath to the Wall of Commemoration. To get there, take Bus Route 501 from Irving Convention Center Station. Monday, Nov. 12 Veterans Day Dallas Symphony Orchestra Ensemble Performance takes place at NorthPark Center at 1 p.m.  A string quartet and woodwind quintet will perform rousing, patriotic music in the area between Nordstrom and Macy’s. The NorthPark Center Shuttle (Route 702) departs from Park Lane Station regularly.
