Dallas Area Rapid Transit is the recipient of two awards given by the South West Transit Association (SWTA). The annual Spotlight Awards recognize excellence in marketing and outreach efforts produced by transit providers across SWTA’s eight-state region.

DART received a Spotlight Award for the Ask DART COVID-19 campaign. The award celebrates the best comprehensive marketing-communications campaign. The goals of the Ask DART COVID-19 campaign were to understand and solve our riders' problems; build trust through transparency; humanize the DART brand; and ultimately persuade riders to start traveling on DART again.

The agency also accepted a Hit the Spot Award. This award honored individual tactics for the combined categories of Social Media and Special Events. For the Social Media category, DART earned praise for DARTzoom: A New Bus Network. This social and digital media campaign generated awareness of the January 2022 major service change; challenged misinformation about service cuts; and encouraged community involvement in the process. In the Special Events category, the Hidden Ridge Station Opening generated excitement and awareness about the opening of the new station at Carpenter Ranch in Irving, Texas.

Representatives from the award-winning agencies presented details of their campaigns during a special session held virtually and in person as part of SWTA’s 2021 Summer University Conference taking place this week in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Since 1990, the Spotlight Awards recognize marketing campaigns and projects in the public transportation industry. Marketing and communications professionals at transit agencies and private marketing firms review and judge the entries. Winners are selected from submissions in categories of different-sized transit systems and for multi-platform marketing campaigns, along with specific print, electronic, social, and event media projects.

SWTA is a regional transit association serving eight states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas. The agency’s mission is to provide a community of education, communication, and advocacy to strengthen our members and their ability to better provide public transportation services and products in the communities they serve.
