Friday, Jan. 31

The Dallas Winter Boat Expo is a great place to dream big – or small. The event features more than 600 new boats, and they range from fishing boats to family cruisers, from ski boats to sail boats. And if you already have a boat, you can get in touch with your inner gearhead and check out all the latest accessories and doo-dads. The expo happens Friday through Sunday at Dallas Market Hall. It will be back next weekend, as well. Get there by taking Bus Route 749 from Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Station on the Green or Orange line.

The Drowsy Chaperone parodies 1920s musicals with song and dance numbers that are in themselves showstoppers. This is the first weekend of its run at The Firehouse Theatre. A man’s favorite record – the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical – comes to life before his eyes. The cast of characters includes two lovers, a desperate theater producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, and an intoxicated chaperone. That’s pretty much all you need for a Jazz Age madcap comedy. You can catch it through Feb. 23; the venue sits across the street from the Green Line’s Farmers Branch Station.

Saturday, Feb. 1

Shop Small Saturday happens today in Historic Downtown Carrollton. Head on up on the Green Line and check out the quaint neighborhood's array of boutiques, shops and restaurants. The event runs from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; the town square is a few blocks from Downtown Carrollton Station.

Free First Saturdays at the Nasher Sculpture Center lets you and your child create, discover and make new memories from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Make art with guest artists, enjoy live music and have a snack. Even if you don’t have a kid, you can get into the acclaimed museum for free until 5 p.m. The Nasher is about a 5-minute walk from Sat. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.

The Rat Pack Lounge gets it last performance today from Garland Civic Theatre. The musical concerns – of course – Frank, Dean and Sammy, who find themselves in the afterlife, returning to Earth on a mission from God: to sing a bunch of songs, mostly, and if they’re not classics, then nothing is. Put on some suave threads and head to the Granville Arts Center, right next to Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line

Pride and Prejudice is a stage adaptation that makes the famous Jane Austen story feel timely. The tale of outspoken Lizzy Bennet and her romantic foibles is staged boisterously by MainStage Irving at the Dupree Theater of the Irving Arts Center. Today’s matinee is at 2:30 p.m.; you can see the play through Feb. 8.
