It’s spring! It’s winter! It’s spring! Looks like the late season cool snaps are coming to an end for the year (don’t hold us to that), and Sunday promises to be gorgeous. This weekend’s DARTable happenings tend toward the outdoorsy. Hopefully, the coolest thing going will be you, in your favorite shades, with a cold beverage in your hand, catching some tunes or noshing on gourmet eats. Of course, nothing says “cool” like a DART pass. It’s the best way to get to these awesome events.

Friday, April 6

Don’t think our region rocks? Head to the Deep Ellum Arts Festival that starts Friday night and runs through Sunday. Yep, there will be plenty of rock – and various other genres – on six stages, 100 musical acts in all. But it’s the namesake art that is the lifeblood of this festival. In that department, you’ll find more than 200 juried artists selling and commissioning original works. There will be no question you’re deep in the art of Texas once you catch the Green Line to Deep Ellum or Baylor University Medical Center Stations (the D-Link will get you there, too), head to Main Street, and soak in all the rockin’ awesomeness that North Texas has to offer.

Saturday, April 7

Target First Saturdays is a fun way to introduce your kids to the world of art. The Nasher Sculpture Center offers free admission and asks you and your family to focus on a "Big Idea" – explored through a hands-on craft, take-home activity and scavenger hunt. There’s an interactive tour for the whole family, as well as storytellers from the Dallas Public Library, a NasherKids Live! performance, live artist demos and more. This month’s Big Idea is “Abstract,” and the corresponding Art Project is themed “Get It Together.” Take any DART Rail line to St. Paul Station and then walk a few blocks, or catch the D-Link.

The Marketplace Garland offers fresh produce, baked goods, jams and jellies, unique items from local artisans… you get the idea. It’s awesome, and it happens in Garland's historic downtown square, on 6th Street. Get on the Blue Line and get to Downtown Garland Station, a short walk from this great, foodie-friendly market.  We had you at “foodie,” right? We’re not done yet. How about 60 local restaurants, brewers and food trucks all in one place – which just happens to be the heart of Oak Cliff? We’re in, and you should be, too. Taste of Oak Cliff is a one-day food experience taking place over several blocks centered on the corner of 10th Street and North Beckley Avenue. It’s free – just take the Dallas Streetcar to the Bishop Arts stop, or bus routes 1 or 11 to get to the action.

Sunday, April 8

Mutts Gone Nuts Canine Cabaret at the Eisemann Center is unique: a comedy dog show with plenty of thrills. There are incredible high flying frisbee dogs, tightwire dogs, dancing dogs, magic dogs, and the one and only Sammie the Talking Dog. Part physical comedy act, part circus show, this family-friendly performance benefitting the Richardson Animal Shelter is full of havoc and hilarity. The Eisemann is steps away from Galatyn Park Station on the Red Line.
