The Perot Museum of Nature and Science celebrates the power of the Force with special activities, performances, and treats both Thursday and Friday. This two-day event will explore holograms, cloning, and life on other planets. There will be Star Wars-themed music, food, crafts, experiments, and more. You can get to the Perot Museum by taking any DART Rail line to Akard Station, then walking three blocks north.

Friday, May 4

A free event on the Carrollton square also marks "May the 4th be With You" with booths, face painting, an awesome laser tag arena, plus two free screenings of The Last Jedi in the Plaza Arts Center. The fun is centered on the 1100 block of South Broadway Street, a short walk from Downtown Carrollton Station on the Green Line.

Film buffs take note! The Dallas International Film Festival started Thursday and will run through May 10. Today is High School Day – an opportunity for educators to connect their students with industry professionals – and the theme, of course, will be Star Wars. All competition feature and short film screenings are at The Magnolia in Uptown' West Village – a short walk from Cityplace/Uptown Station and an even shorter walk from the M-Line Trolley. The festival features 110 films from 25 countries. Tonight, there will be screenings of The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Roxanne, documentary and narrative shorts, and several other features.

JMBLYA is a three-day, three-city hip-hop festival that takes place in Dallas at the Fair Park Coliseum. The festival showcases some of the most sought-after talent in that vibrant genre, including J. Cole, Migos, Kevin Gates, Playboi Carti and Trippie Redd. The venue is accessible by Fair Park or MLK, Jr. stations, both on the Green Line. No word on whether Star Wars will crop up in any of the lyrics or performances.

Saturday and Sunday, Cottonwood Art Festival features works from the nation's top visual artists. There’s a lot more than just art, though; the festival also has great local bands, food and spirits. The event is at Richardson’s Cottonwood Park. Get there by taking bus routes 402 or 403 to Belt Line and Brockwood. Both depart from Addison Transit Center and Downtown Carrollton Station.

The Dallas Cinco de Mayo is a full-fledged parade and a fiesta rolled into one. After the parade, Jefferson Boulevard will be transformed into a street fair, with DJs on every corner, performances by mariachi bands and ballet folklorico, and 200 storefronts adding to the festive atmosphere. It all takes place on the historic boulevard’s 200 to 600 blocks. You can get there by taking Bus Route 11, which departs from the West Transfer Center in downtown Dallas.

For a different kind of cultural experience, hit Plano AsiaFest at Haggard Park, right next to the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station. The numerous cultural demonstrations, performances, and vendors should be fun for the whole family.

Downtown Garland is getting in on the Cinco de Mayo fun, too, with a Cinco De Mayo Celebration taking place Sunday on the town square. There will be live music, as well as food, a car show and a kid's zone. The square is a few blocks from Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.

Like the idea of a quaint downtown, but your idea of fun is shopping? Bubbles & Boutiques in the Downtown Plano Arts District is the event for you. At this "sip & shop," you can enjoy complimentary champagne while browsing the area’s shops and boutiques. Looking for a one-of-a-kind git for mom? The force will be with you on that one – many of the retailers have special Mother’s Day offers. The neighborhood is situated on several blocks adjacent to Downtown Plano Station.
