“Hitchcocktober” is a cool – or maybe chilling – series at the Angelika Film Center celebrating the Master of Suspense. Thursday night is your chance to see “Rear Window” on the big screen. The classic study of paranoia, starring Jimmy Stewart, is one of Hitch’s true masterpieces. The Angelika is just up the escalator from Mockingbird Station.

Friday, Oct. 5

Irving Concert Series is a great way to catch a live musical performance for free. Tonight, check out Vibe the Band, a fun Top 40 cover outfit. The concert happens from 7 to 8:45 p.m.; food trucks will be on site, so you can grab some bites while grooving to the tunes. That’s a pretty good Friday evening at Whistlestop Plaza, steps from Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).

Saturday, Oct. 6

Target First Saturdays at the Nasher Sculpture Center is a great, free parent-and-child program happening from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Families get to explore a Big Idea through a hands-on craft, a take-home activity and a scavenger hunt. You can also search the museum for art related to the Big Idea. There’s more, too, including storytellers from the Dallas Public Library, a fun NasherKids Live! Performance, live artist demos and even yoga.  This month’s Big Idea is “Nature.” You can get there on the D-Link (Route 722) or take the short walk from St. Paul Station.

Rowlett International Festival promises to be a great early-fall event celebrating the diversity of Rowlett and North Texas. Food trucks, vendors and entertainment will all be abundant, and the festival is free. It takes place in the Village of Downtown Rowlett, a short walk from the Blue Line’s Downtown Rowlett Station.

The Marketplace Garland is another great way to get outdoors. The farmers’ market has it all: fresh produce, baked goods, jams and one-of-a-kind items from local artisans. You can also donate an item of canned or boxed food to Good Samaritans of Garland, if you’re so inclined. The market happens from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Garland’s historic town square. This is the second-to-last market of the season, so if you haven’t checked it out yet, today would be a great day to do it. You can get there by taking the Blue Line to Downtown Garland Station, and then walking a few blocks.

Carrollton Concert on the Square keeps the outdoor theme going with free live tunes at 6 p.m. The Square is just a short walk from Downtown Carrollton Station. Grab a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy More Love Band, which covers a variety of styles – especially from the 1980s. Don’t forget your legwarmers!

Pix on the Plaza, presented by Toyota Music Factory and Alamo Drafthouse, is a free movie screening in a fun atmosphere. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and settle in for a true classic: “ET.” The screening happens in the Texas Lottery Plaza, a short walk from Irving Convention Center Station.

“How is it That We Live or Shakey Jake + Alice” is a play tracing the lives of two lovers through the years – from first kiss to last goodbye. Today’s performance is your last chance to catch the Undermain Theatre’s play, penned by longtime collaborator Len Jenkin. The venue is at 3200 Main St. in Deep Ellum, a few blocks from Baylor University Medical Center on the Green Line.
