It’s a festive weekend as fall rolls around. Hop on board and DART to these fun events.

Thursday, Sept. 20

Addison Oktoberfest is authentically German, with plenty of family entertainment. The celebration starts on Thursday and runs all weekend. Along with seasonal beer and great food, the festival has a marketplace, music, rides and more. It happens in Addison Circle Park, a short walk from Addison Transit Center.

The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection displays beautiful artifacts of the Harlem Renaissance. The exhibit at the ArtCentre of Plano closes Saturday at 5 p.m. – if you haven’t caught it yet, get on the Red Line to Downtown Plano Station. The venue is a short walk across Haggard Park. The collection gives a terrific survey of the scholars, artists, writers and activists that made the era so significant.

Friday, Sept. 21

InTouch Credit Union Plano Balloon Festival is spectacular with 40 balloons of all shapes and colors filling the sky over Oak Point Park. It starts Friday and takes place through Sunday. In addition to the magnificent balloons, the festival has skydiver performances, live music, fireworks, a kids’ zone and the show-stopping Balloon Glow on Friday and Saturday evenings. To get to Oak Point Park, take the Red Line to Downtown Plano Station. A free Balloon Flyer shuttle will take you from there right to the fun.

PARK(ing) Day Dallas takes place Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Main Street, between Harwood and Field streets, in downtown Dallas. Join fellow pedestrians as they transform parking spaces into parks. Enjoy live music and poetry performances at Main Street Garden and Pegasus Plaza. All four DART Rail lines and D-Link service downtown.

Saturday, Sept. 22

Smoked Dallas is a smokin’ good time at the awesome Main Street Garden in downtown Dallas. Something like 20 top pitmasters will be practicing their craft, and there will be fun events such as armadillo races. Eleven Hundred Springs and others will be on hand with some appropriately Texas-style music. The park is a three-block walk from St. Paul Station -- all four DART Rail lines serve this station. You can also get there on the D-Link. Gates open at 2 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 23

Autumn at the Arboretum opens this weekend with a profusion of color that will last until Nov. 21. If 4,500 chrysanthemums and 150,000 fall-blooming plants doesn’t impress you, nothing will. There’s also the Pumpkin Village, with 90,000 pumpkins and gourds, along with scenes from the beloved book, Peter and Wendy (this year’s theme is "The Adventure in Neverland”). Take Bus Route 60, which leaves from Union Station, and get off at Garland Road and Lakeland.

Barefoot in the Park, a classic presented by Garland Civic Theater, has its last performance today. A light comedy about newlyweds, this is the play that put Neil Simon on the map. Performances are at the Granville Arts Center, right next to Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.

Where are you going on DART this weekend? Let us know in the comments.

Note: An earlier version mentioned the Irving Main Street Event occurring Friday Sept. 21. The event has been cancelled.
