Sunny skies and warmer temps are probably all the enticement you need to get out of the house this weekend. But there are some great events to sweeten the pot. Among others, you’ll find an enriching way to observe Black History Month, an incredible profusion of springtime flowers and a brand-new exhibition at the Perot Museum. All DARTable, of course. Read on to find out more.

Friday,Feb. 22

15th Annual Weekend Festival of Black Dance - Rhythm & Soul of a People showcases the splendor of African dance. Both tonight and Saturday night, you can celebrate Black History Month by catching the Dallas Black Academy of Arts and Letters’ (DBAAL) annual event. The Washington, D.C.-based Kankouran West African Dance Company shares the spotlight with Atlanta Dance Connection for a stirring mix of traditional, contemporary and modern dance. Performances are at DBAAL’s Naomi Bruton Main Stage – near the corner of Akard and Canton streets in downtown Dallas. It’s a five-minute walk from Convention Center Station on the Red and Blue line.

Patton Oswalt is one of the funniest stand-up comedians around. Over a decades-long career, he’s racked up a lengthy list of film and television credits. Tonight, he comes to the Majestic Theatre to deliver his powerful, emotionally charged brand of comedy. The Majestic is only three blocks from St. Paul Station, served by all four DART Rail lines.

Guadalupe in the Guest Room is a funny and heartfelt story about new beginnings – and the healing power of telenovelas. The title character lives in the guest room of her son-in-law, while overcoming her grief over her daughter’s death. The two bond despite a language barrier. The play opens tonight and runs through March 17 at Addison’s WaterTower Theatre, about a seven-minute walk from Addison Transit Center.

Saturday, Feb. 23

The Art of the Brick is the latest traveling exhibition at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Featuring works of art constructed using only LEGO® bricks, it’s the world’s largest display of its kind. It opens today. You’ll see both original pieces and reimagined versions of art “celebrities” like Starry Night. You can also build stuff yourself. The exhibition runs through Aug. 18. The Perot Museum a six-minute walk from West End Station on all four DART Rail lines.

DFW Kid's Directory Summer Camp & Activities Expo makes it easy to find the summer camp that’s right for you and your child. More than 40 of the area's top summer camps will be on hand to provide information. You might not have even known about many of them. Avoid being wait-listed, secure your child’s spot and receive discounts. You may even win a free summer camp. The expo takes place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Moody Coliseum on the SMU campus. To get there, take the Red, Blue or Orange lines to Mockingbird Station, then catch the SMU Express (Route 768) or Museum Express (Route 743).

Dallas Blooms is one of the Dallas Arboretum’s most popular – and colorful – displays. Opening today, it has more than 100 varieties of spring flowers, including 500,000 tulips. This year’s theme: “Life's A Picnic.” Among other variations on the theme, you’ll see an incredible topiary depicting a picnic. Also, the festival screens the “Best Picnic Scenes throughout Film” each day. You can sample picnic wines at Wine Down Wednesdays, check out live music every weekend, and much more. The flower festival runs through April 7. Dallas Arboretum is accessible via Bus Route 60; get off at Garland Road and Lakeland Drive.

Sunday, Feb. 24

Avatars and Incarnations: Buddhist and Hindu Art from the Collection at the Crow Museum of Asian Art explores divine avatars in Hindu and Buddhist art. An avatar is the physical incarnation of a deity; artistic representations of them vary quite a bit. This is your last chance to check out the fascinating Hindu and Buddhist figures. The exhibition closes after today. The Crow Museum is in the Downtown Arts District, a five- or six-minute walk from St. Paul Station, served by all four DART Rail lines.
