The holidays are coming, and this weekend is full of seasonal events. Enjoy performances, one-stop-shopping, alt-rock and a life-size replica of Mount Rushmore -- maybe not life-size, but probably pretty big! Get on board for these DARTable happenings.

Friday, Nov. 22

Chi Omega Christmas Market is a chance to check some people off your holiday shopping list and contribute to a good cause. Well over 200 vendors have holiday decorations, clothing, toys, gift-y food items and a bunch more. Proceeds go to local charities. The market opened on Thursday and runs through Sunday at Centennial Hall in Fair Park, a short walk from the Green line’s Fair Park Station.

Holiday in the National Parks: Christmas in the White House 2007 just opened at the George W. Bush Presidential Center. It features lots of greenery and flowers, plus a replica of the official White House Christmas tree. Models of the Alamo, the Frederic Douglass House, Mount Rushmore and Spanish missions also make an appearance at this seasonal exhibit., which runs through Jan. 5. The venue is on the SMU campus; to get there, take the Red, Blue or Orange lines to Mockingbird Station. The Museum Express (Route 743) or SMU Express (Route 768) will take you the rest of the way.

A Christmas Carol, the Dallas Theater Center’s annual extravaganza, opens tonight at the Wyly Theatre. The spectacular production delivers the expected ingredients – holiday spirit, rousing music, an inspiring tale of redemption – with the bold twist that Scrooge is reimagined as a woman. The play runs through Dec. 29. The Wyly is about a 7-minute walk from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART rail lines.

Incubus, the California alt-rock band that became huge in the late ’90s, comes to Irving tonight in support of their latest mega-selling album. They play both tonight and tomorrow night at the Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. Contrary to their biggest hit “Drive,” we suggest you avoid parking hassles by riding the Orange Line to Irving Convention Center Station. The venue is about a 9-minute walk, but a one-stop entertainment mecca awaits, along with the music.

Projapoti – The Matchmaker is Bangla Theater’s take on a Thornton Wilder play. The story concerns a wealthy but miserly merchant and – yes – a matchmaker who become embroiled in romantic follies. This sort-of farce, written by one of America’s great playwrights and performed in Bengali, plays at the Irving Arts Center tonight only. Get there by catching Bus Route 401 from the Orange Line’s North Lake Station.

I Can Do All Things is the story of Ray, a man who goes from unemployed to having more jobs than he can handle. Can he really do all things? Like as in, be a pastor and a phone psychic? Find out at one of two shows (2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.) at Granville Arts Center, right next to the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.

Pete the Cat is a family-friendly musical about, well, a cat named Pete. He’s a rocker, and like all rockers, Pete lives a life of leisure, jam sessions, and hanging out in other people’s yards. This all changes after the bust, when a cat-catcher sends him to spend a week as a house cat. His host family’s second-grade son turns out to be an ace rule-follower, but not so hot at letting loose creatively. Pete takes the boy to the moon (what did his parents expect when they let a musician in the house), and the two teach one another some lessons.  Based on the popular series of children’s books, the musical is performed tonight only at the Eisemann Center. That’s right across the plaza from Galatyn Park Station on the Red Line.

CJ Johnson is a magician, hypnotist and overall entertainer who brings his kid-oriented show to Downtown Garland’s Plaza Theatre today at 3 p.m. If you can get him hypnotize your little one and “suggest” that she clean her room, bonus points. The theater is a short walk from Downtown Garland Station.
