Phantom of the Opera an over-the-top comedy version of the well-known story. It may not be as dazzling as the popular Broadway musical, but it costs a whole lot less – and hey, you get to throw popcorn at the actors. That should tip you off that it’s a Pocket Sandwich Theatre production. The play opens tonight and runs through Nov. 15. The theater is in Historic Downtown Carrollton, a short walk from Downtown Carrollton Station on the Green Line.
The 6th Annual Latinidades Festival & Symposium is the launch of Cara Mía Theatre’s season and a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The international Latino theater festival features six mainstage productions and many second-stage performances that include theater, dance, music, and poetry. You’ll find a full schedule of events at the festival website. Performances take place through Oct. 12 at the Latino Cultural Center, just down the street from the Green Line’s Deep Ellum Station.
Tony Baker and KevOnStage, the two comedians known as The Bald Brothers, come to the Majestic Theatre. Both have appeared extensively on television, and tonight they bring their act to Dallas. The theater is only a few blocks from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.
Going Wild follows a lady who decides to let her lawn go wild with a natural garden, which does not please her neighbors. But when she becomes involved with the environmental group Green Future, she finds herself running afoul of the FBI. See it through Oct. 11 at Cox Playhouse. It’s right across Haggard Park from Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.
Friday, Oct. 3-Saturday, Oct. 4
CityLine Live presents live music under the stars at CityLine Plaza. Bring a picnic blanket or grab a patio seat at one of CityLine’s many restaurants. On Friday, check out singer-guitarist Ellie Meyer; on Saturday, enjoy the vintage charms of the Texas Jazz cats. The plaza is near CityLine/Bush Station on the Red Line.
DanceAfrica is Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s 20th annual installment of the event. Traditional and contemporary African dance come to life joyfully to the pulse of live drums. Stay after the show for the communal Bantaba, a vibrant, interactive dance experience. It all happens at Moody Performance Hall, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four ART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.
Saturday, Oct. 4
Snaketoberfest features some of DFW’s finest honky tonk, y’allternative, and cosmic country bands at one of Garland’s favorite barbecue joints and ale houses. Slow Moving Snakes top the bill, accompanied by many others. Since the event takes place at Intrinsic Smokehouse and Brewery, you’d better believe barbecue and brews are in the mix. The venue is walkable from the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.
Saturday, Oct. 4-Sunday, Oct. 5
