Posted on Apr 4, 2024 by DART Daily

It’s a big DARTable weekend coming up with lots of theater and art – including the weekend-long Deep Ellum Community Arts Fair . Read on to see all of the stuff you can get to on DART.

Thursday, April 4-Saturday, April 6

Chicago remains one of the most popular Broadway musicals of all time. With a show-stopping score and spectacular sets and dancing, the six-time Tony Award®-winner celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. See why the musical became a phenomenon at the Winspear Opera House. The venue is walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.

Friday, April 5

Music Made Here is a concert series featuring live performances in the newly renovated Downtown Garland Square. This Friday night's headliner is Ian Moore. The seasoned pro has shared the stage with the likes of Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones. Along with the music, you can get bites from local restaurants. The event is kid-friendly, too. The square is a short walk from the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.

360 ALLSTARS combines BMX, basketball, breakdancing, acrobatics, drumming and more. An urban circus of sorts, the performance celebrates all forms of rotation (as its name suggests). It’s a multimedia spectacular, with video projections and a live musical score. Experience the performance at the Eisemann Center, just across the plaza from the Red Line’s Galatyn Park Station.

9 to 5 The Musical is based on the 1980 hit movie. The story of friendship and revenge sees three women giving their workplace a makeover – and their boss the boot. Catch the performance through April 21 at The Firehouse Theatre, walkable from Farmers Branch Station on the Green Line.

Dial M for Murder is a new version of the murder mystery that inspired the famous Hitchcock film. The gripping thriller is full of danger, recrimination, and – of course – murder. Will the killer get away? You’ll have to wait to find out until the end of this performance at the Wyly Theater. The show runs through April 28. The venue is walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines.

Saturday, April 6

Big Art Day is an annual spring arts festival in Garland. From hands-on crafts to live entertainment, the family-friendly event celebrates the vibrance and diversity of the Garland arts community. It takes place at the Granville Arts Center, right next door to Downtown Garland Station on the Blue line.

Big Texas Beer Fest lets you sample from more than 350 beers (we don’t recommend trying them all) from more than 80 brewers. Admission covers 12 two-ounce samples; for only $5, you can get another 12. There is also an outdoor pavilion with food vendors and music from local bands. The fun is brewing at the Automobile Building at Fair Park. That’s a short walk from Fair Park Station on the Green Line.

The Black Crowes come to Irving in support of their new album, Happiness Bastards. See the long-lasting rockers at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. That’s walkable from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station.

Saturday, April 6-Sunday, April 7

A Celebration of Dance is Ballet Ensemble of Texas’ annual program, which this weekend features a premiere of Alice in Wonderland. The performance takes place at Irving Arts Center. You can get there on Bus Route 229.

When You See Me features nearly 60 works by a diverse, intergenerational group of 50 artists. Their works explore invisibility, hypervisibility, the desire to be seen, and the right to be private. The exhibit is visible through April 13 at the Dallas Museum of Art. The museum is walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.

Monday, April 8

No, it’s not the weekend anymore, but it still promises to be the most happening day North Texas has seen for a long time. By now, you probably know why. Click here for a list of DARTable eclipse viewing events.
