There’s a big, DARTable weekend ahead. Kick it off by joining us to celebrate DART’s Bike to Work Day, taking place Friday at six stations throughout the service area. The rest of the weekend holds art fairs, theater, live music, and one of the biggest festivals of spring. There’s lots more, too! Read on to see where DART can take you.
Thursday, May 15-Sunday, May 18
The Other Art Fair gathers more than 120 artists from Dallas and around the world. Visitors can liven up their blank white walls with artwork they can buy directly from the artists. Browse original and affordable works of art and buy them directly from the artists. The fair takes place at Dallas Market Hall. To get there, take the Orange or Green line to Market Center Station; the venue is about a 13-minute walk away.
Friday, May 16
’til Midnight at the Nasher presents live outdoor concerts featuring regional talent along with film screenings in the Nasher Garden. You can also take tours and check out the permanent collection and special exhibitions. There’s a bar and food, too. Tonight, enjoy music by Ishi and House of Frequencies, followed by a screening of Mamma Mia! The Nasher Sculpture Center is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.
The Wedding Singer is based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, with a fabulously '80s score. Revisit the era of big hair through June 1 at The Firehouse Theatre, walkable from the Green Line’s Farmers Branch Station.
Fatherland follows two Texan brothers who seek justice for a crime, and are forced to confront their family’s dark past. See it through June 7 at the Addison Performing Arts Centre, walkable from Addison Transit Center. Numerous bus routes take you there.
Friday, May 16-Saturday, May 17
CityLine Live Music Series presents music under the stars at CityLine Plaza. Listen from one of the restaurant patios on State Street, or pick up dinner and drinks to-go and soak up the live sounds right in the plaza. Lawn chairs and picnic blankets are welcome. On Friday night, enjoy the country stylings of Taylor Lewis. On Saturday, Griffin Holtby takes the stage with his bluesy brand of power rock. The plaza is walkable from CityLine/Bush Station on the Red Line.
Spring Celebration is Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s annual production, featuring the world premiere of Kareem B. Goodwin’s Building the Beat, along with two audience favorites: Allyne D. Gartrell’s My Inspiration and Christopher L. Huggins’ Night Run. See it at the Wyly Theatre, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.
Red Headed Stranger 50th Anniversary Tribute Concert celebrates Willie Nelson’s all-time classic album, which was recorded in Garland only about three miles from the site of the concert. The special show features performances from some great Texas artists: Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel), Rhett Miller (Old 97's), Joshua Ray Walker, and Max and Heather Stalling. Celebrate the iconic Texas album at Granville Arts Center. That’s right next door to the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.
Friday, May 16-Sunday, May 18
Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival includes live performances by nearly 50 national, regional, and local bands, a singer-songwriter contest, family-friendly activities, a marketplace, performers and tons of food. Headlining bands include The Revivalists, Cold War Kids, Young the Giant, NEEDTOBREATHE, and Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears. The event takes place in Galatyn Park Urban Center. That’s next to Galatyn Park Station on the Red Line.
Saturday, May 17
Downtown Carrollton Market on the Square brings together local crafters, artists, food vendors, and more in an indoor/outdoor experience in Downtown Carrollton. Some streets are closed off making this a fun event for the whole family. The neighborhood is served by the Green Line’s Downtown Carrollton Station.

The Afro Air Festival is a vibrant celebration that transforms Fair Park into a pan-African village with a day of food, music, dance and art. The festival features more than 25 performers and artists, and more than 40 vendors. Performers include Zimbabwean DJ duo Lex & Answer, Cameroon singer Ginny Worldwide, Nigerian singer David Coast, hip hop artists D-Sensei and Bran Movay, and many more. Get to Fair Park by taking the Green Line to Fair Park Station.
