Friday, Sept. 13

On Golden Pond is about an aging couple that spends their summers in New England. The play explores the difficulties of a long marriage, the relationship between a father and daughter, and the generation gap between young and old. See it at Granville Arts Center through Sept. 29. The venue is right next to Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.

Frida: Beyond the Myth explores the life of one of the most revered artists of the 20th century – Frida Kahlo – with 60 works by her and her contemporaries. The exhibition features self-portraits, still lives, biographical drawings, and photographs. You can catch it at the Dallas Museum of Art through Nov. 17. Walk to the museum from Pear/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or catch the M-Line trolley.

Athena follows two young women, both fencers training for the Junior Olympics. Although in competition, they also become fascinated with one another. The play’s regional premiere runs through Sept. 29 at Undermain Theatre. The theatre is walkable from the Green Line’s Baylor University Medical Center Station.

Alicia Villareal has released five albums in her career, and she takes the stage tonight at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. You can walk to the venue from Irving Convention Center Station on the Orange Line or take Bus Route 227.

It Came from Texas Film Festival celebrates films made right here in the Lone Star State. The second annual installment will feature films celebrating Texas itself. There are screenings of Tender Mercies, The Last Picture Show, and Giant, among many others. The festival takes place at Garland’s Plaza Theatre, a short walk from the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.

Saturday, Sept. 14

CODA is part of Klyde Warren Park’s Movies in the Park series. The Oscar-winning film revolves around a teenager who is the only hearing member of a deaf family. She serves as the bridge between her family and the hearing world, while also dreaming of pursuing a career in singing. The park is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, and is also served by the M-Line trolley.

Sunday, Sept. 15

Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum’s Five Year Anniversary offers free admission to all visitors. Activities include gallery talks throughout the day in English and Spanish, film screenings, kid-friendly activities, and meet-and-greets with Holocaust survivors and descendants. The museum is walkable from West End Station on all four DART Rail lines.
