A pair of food-centric festivals, musical performances, and a wine walk are all on the menu this weekend. Get on board and get to the fun – it’s all DARTable.

All weekend long

Addison Oktoberfest starts Thursday and runs through Sunday. The family-friendly festival has everything you could want from an Oktoberfest celebration: entertainers in German costumes, schuhplatten dancing, oompah music, and plenty of beer. (A Paulaner pairs perfectly with sausage, sauerkraut and strudel.) It’s all at Addison Circle Park, just up the street from Addison Transit Center

GrapeFest, billed as “a Texas wine experience,” also opens Thursday and continues all weekend. Swirl and sip your way through Texas – and California and Australia, too, if you feel like branching out. Enjoy live entertainment, a carnival midway, an Italian car expo, and plenty more in downtown Grapevine. Take the Orange Line to DFW Airport Station, make the easy walk from Terminal A to Terminal B, and transfer to TEXRail. Get off at Grapevine/Main Street Station (two stops away), and you’ll be right in the heart of the festivities.

Friday, Sept. 17

Vandell Andrew is a saxophonist from New Orleans – the birthplace of jazz. With plenty of chart success and industry accolades under his belt, Andrew has toured the world, and tonight he pulls into Plano. Catch him at Event1013, barely a block from the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station.

Counting Crows hit the top of the pops in the ’90s with unique hooks and smart lyrics. With eight albums to date, their act remains fresh. Expect an invigorating performance when the band hits the Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, a short walk from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station.

Bright Star is a musical penned by Steve Martin and local-girl-done-good Edie Brickell. When a literary agent meets a young soldier just home from World War II, the two form a unique bond that’s rooted in tragedy – but culminates in redemption. The play runs through Sept. 26 at The Firehouse Theatre, just around the corner from Farmers Branch Station on the Green Line.

Saturday, Sept. 18

Downtown Garland Wine Walk  is a chance to enjoy Garland’s charming downtown area, strolling at your own pace and sampling wines at participating businesses. The walk begins at 3 p.m.; at 5 p.m., the Rock-A-Holics will strike up the band. Check in to get your map and collectible wine glass at the Landmark Museum near Sixth and Walnut streets – a block from Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.

Sunday, Sept. 19

Spectacular Follies presents favorite songs from the ’50s, sung and danced by an all-over-55 cast. There will be songs by the likes of Elvis and Buddy Holly, a tribute to ’50s-era Broadway, and a special appearance by the Follies Showgirls. See the extravaganza at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts, right across the plaza from the Red Line’s Galatyn Park Station.
