It’s quite a weekend for theatergoers, with a host of DARTable productions. You can also catch a Korean rock band. Read on to find out more.

Friday, Aug. 8

The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum's Summer Survivor Speaker Series highlights the testimonies of Holocaust survivors, refugees, and hidden children, as well as second generation survivors. This afternoon’s entry features Ron Schwarz, the son of Holocaust survivor Charles Schwarz, who escaped to Switzerland at great risk. The museum is walkable from West End Station on all four DART Rail lines.

Rock of Ages is set in late ‘80s Sunset Strip, and follows a pair of aspiring rock stars. While they cut their teeth at a storied venue, developers have plan to turn it into a strip mall. Can they save the Strip with rock 'n' roll? The musical features hits from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, and more. Take a trip back in time through Aug. 24 at The Firehouse Theatre. That’s easily walkable from the Green Line’s Farmers Branch Station.

Life of Pi is based on the bestselling novel. It’s an epic story of perseverance involving the sole survivor of a shipwreck. The sole human survivor, that is; his companions are a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, and a Royal Bengal tiger. The production features world-class puppetry and amazing stagecraft. Experience it through Aug. 17 at Winspear Opera House.

Star Trip: A Tale of Two Captains satirizes sci-fi television shows of the past and present. Captain Kurt and his friend bolly go where no man has gone before to defeat Darkness. Get ready to throw some popcorn through Aug. 23 at Pocket Sandwich Theatre. That’s walkable from the Green Line’s Downtown Carrollton Station.

Murder at the Orient Burlesque is a comedy by Rover Dramawerks’ own Carol M. Rice. A Russian princess joins a burlesque show and is soon found murdered. Whodunit? Find out Thursdays through Saturdays through Aug. 16 at the Cox Playhouse. That’s right across Haggard Park from Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.

Sunday, Aug. 10

Xdinary Heroes take the stage in Irving. See the South Korean rock band at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, walkable from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station.
