Flash Update Part 1 Status of the D2 Subway

Posted on Oct 16, 2017 by dartdallas
As we’ve mentioned before, DART has some exciting projects for North Texas that will expand transit options for our region. Two of our large-scale expansion projects are the D2 Subway and the Cotton Belt.  While these two projects serve two different purposes, they both will increase mobility and flexibility for goods and people to travel around the region. DART has some exciting updates on both of these projects in this two-part series. Get a quick readout of the progress we’ve made with the D2 Subway in Part 1! The D2 Subway will serve a critical purpose of relieving the pressure on the existing four light rail lines that all run on the same downtown tracks. By adding in an underground route, North Texans will be able to move more flexibly and efficiently around the region.
  • On Wednesday September 13th, the Dallas City Council gave its support to build the downtown subway.
  • The City Council chose the Commerce/Victory/Swiss alignment as their first choice for the D2 Subway, which will start near DART Victory Station then travel over to the Perot Museum and then move to the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. It will then transition underground, running beneath Commerce Avenue before surfacing near the Good-Latimer Expressway.
  • The Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) was approved by the DART Board on September 26.
  • DART will seek funding through the Federal Transit’s Administration’s (FTA’s) Core Capacity Program. Guided by the FTA, DART will seek 50/50 funding for the D2 Subway.
Planning for the Future DART collaborates with many different community partners to make these projects a reality for North Texas.  We partner with local communities, the DART Board, the Dallas City Council, and stakeholders from across the region to create the best transit projects for our region. DART will continue to bring you updates as these projects move forward in the development process!
