Being aware of your surroundings and alert to suspicious behavior is good practice whether you are riding DART to work, school, or special events like the State Fair of Texas. In September, DART rolled out a new reporting mobile app that makes it easier for riders to anonymously and discreetly report incidents on the agency’s buses and trains.
“DART Say Something” is a free app by ELERTS and is available for iPhone and Android devices. It features a drop-down menu that allows riders to select the type of activity they wish to report, as well as the location. Customers can submit photos and video, and there is a notes field that allows them to type any additional information before hitting
“send report.”
Two-way communication allows police dispatchers to request further details and allows riders to respond to alerts they receive. Already, more than 1,700 people have downloaded the app from either the App Store and on Google Play.
Non-smartphone users can use the system’s text-a-tip service at 214-256-1819.
