Shape the future of the Interstate 35E Corridor in Farmers Branch

Farmers Branch I-35 Corridor Study Farmers Branch I-35 Corridor Study
Posted on Jun 23, 2020 by Karen Ptacek

The Farmers Branch Planning Department is asking residents, employees and business people to weigh in on the future of the Interstate 35E corridor through Farmers Branch with a new survey available online from June 22 through July 5.

The survey is found at IH-35EVision.com.

The IH-35E corridor is an important employment center for Farmers Branch and the region. DART’s Green Line transportation parallels the highway, offering transit alternatives for residents and workers, including a stop at the city’s namesake Farmers Branch Station. The GoLink Farmers Branch zone provides on-demand first/last-mile transportation between the station and this district’s many destinations, making the area more DARTable.

New development within the DART station area, such as the Shops at Mustang Station, will continue to be a catalyst to spur additional development within the I-35E corridor, creating an opportunity to transform this corridor and create an impressive gateway into Farmers Branch.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which broke out in the middle of this planning process, has already had a profound impact on the Farmers Branch community that we are only beginning to understand. As the crisis subsides and the city begin to turn its attention to recovery, the opportunity exists to assess how to move forward in a way that both addresses the situation now and envisions long-term goals later.

To that end, the city is working to understand the health and resilience of businesses in the area as they emerge from the government-mandated shutdown, as well as look to how the study area could change in the future to best represent Farmers Branch.

The city is seeking input from a wide range of stakeholders – residents, businesses, employees, property owners – to gain a clearer picture of what the corridor on both sides of Interstate 35E through Farmers Branch will look like in the next 20 years.
