Just a little more than 10 years ago, this used to be the norm for North Texans. On November 13, 2004, DART opened a very important stop along DART rail - Victory Station.  Located on both the Orange and Green Line, Victory Station opened up access to the some of the events North Texans enjoy the most. In addition to DART rail, North Texans had the ability to access DART buses and the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) commuter rail. What’s at Victory Station? Good question! One of the largest destinations located at Victory Station is access to the American Airlines Center. Home to the Mavericks, the Stars, and musical celebrities like Bruno Mars, Tim McGraw, and Lady Gaga, this venue draws in North Texans across our region along with out-of-town visitors. Take Me Back! In November 2004, North Texans could access Victory Station thanks to special light rail service on the Red and Blue lines, full- service wasn’t introduced until after the construction of the Green Line. Back then, DART served 57,000 daily riders over its 44-mile, 34-station light rail system. Now DART Rail boasts over 93 miles of light rail, 64 light rail stations, and provides more than 29.8 million passenger trips per year. Victory Station marked a significant growth point for DART Rail. It was the start of a 49-mile DART Rail expansion to the southeast and the northwest. Looking Back to Move Forward It’s important to take a step back every now and then to reflect on how far DART has come as a multi-modal transportation system. Started in the 1980’s, our transit system can compete with those cities who have had their systems for hundreds of years. Although it’s difficult to imagine North Texas without DART, it wasn’t so long ago that North Texans had limited options of transportation, were dependent on personal vehicles, and pigeonholed in their neighborhood. Continuing to grow DART and expand our system means a more efficient, accessible, and mobile North Texas for everyone.
