A subway presents a unique set of challenges we will have to work through to make the best use of our resources, balance everyone's interests, and position the downtown Dallas and North Texas communities for success. Why does your help matter to D2? Public transit systems are built to serve the entire community. It's important that everyone who uses and is affected by the DART system contribute their feedback on the D2 subway design. Usability: D2 will be the underground second rail alignment built to alleviate the current bottlenecking of rail transit lines in downtown Dallas.  We want to hear from you about how the design of this alignment would best serve the greatest number of people — both riders and non-riders alike. As DART refines the route of the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA), we need input on everything from route placement to station locations.  DART's goal for D2 is to make sure everyone is able not only to use the system to get to where they need to go efficiently and affordably but also to benefit from the system even if they don't use it regularly themselves. Safety: Underground transportation can present unique safety concerns. In addition to ensuring the safety of the subway, cars, tracks, and movement underground, DART wants to make sure everyone is safe to ride D2 no matter what time of day it is. The community can help DART keep D2 safe and secure by raising awareness if there are areas of the system that may require greater security than others. Underground obstacles: We may not realize it, but there are more things underneath our feet than just soil or rock. Cities like Dallas have all sorts of infrastructure underground that helps us live our daily lives.  Pipes delivering natural gas, building foundations, underground parking garages and electric utility lines will all be obstacles DART will have to work around as the construction of D2 begins.  Having input from experts in these areas will be critical. The key to D2's success is collaboration and feedback from the public, stakeholders, policy-makers, and technical staff.  Together, we can make sure #D2will be a successful transit solution for our region.
