A System for Our Entire Community
DART is an essential part of the fabric of North Texas. Our transit system does so much more than get folks from Point A to Point B. DART drives economic development, builds communities, and defines a lifestyle for all who live and work in our region. That's why, as we have embarked on the project development process for the second downtown rail alignment (D2), we have sought participation and input from stakeholders, technical staff, policy decision-makers, and the public to make sure the design we settle on balances everyone's interests—and that's why, based on stakeholder input to date, we are now planning to build D2 as a subway rather than the mostly aboveground light rail route associated with the original Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA).
Building a subway changes the scope of the D2 project significantly. DART is committed to keeping the process open and transparent as we now delve into finding a subway alignment that works both physically and financially.
DART is starting to develop route options and determining how to proceed with this new underground transit solution in terms of budget, design, and route. To submit our project plan to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) by September 2017, which we must do to be able to take advantage of current federal funding possibilities, we will need to have solidified the new LPA route by June 2017.
That's where you come in! Stay involved and informed via our public meetings, newsletters, and updates. DART wants to collaborate with everyone in the North Texas community, and hearing what you believe is most important for D2 is essential as we continue to make the vision of D2 a reality.
