The 2020 Dallas Auto Show is kicking off a brand-new decade with a host of redesigns of some of the manufacturer’s most popular models as well as a sneak peak of what is coming for 2021. The auto extravaganza will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center March 18-22.

“Our motto is ‘Shop, Compare and Drive’. And there certainly is no better place in North Texas during the month of March to do just that,” said Don Herring, Jr., 2020 Dallas Auto Show chairman. “This year’s event will feature hundreds of cars, trucks SUVs and even some EVs that are garnering a lot of media attention these days. Product specialists will be on hand to help serious car shoppers find the perfect fit for their families, and the outdoor Ride & Drive event will assist in that decision-making process.”

The 2020 Genesis GV80 will be making its Texas debut at the Dallas Auto Show, with the 2021 Lexus LC500 Convertible making its Texas Auto Show debut. Additional 2021 models headlining the event include: Chevrolet Tahoe and Trailblazer; Ford Mach-E; GMC Yukon Denali; Kia Seltos; Toyota RAV4 Prime, Trail Edition 4Runner, Trail Edition Tacoma and Trail Edition Tundra; and Volkswagen Atlas Facelift. There also will be a strong showing of a variety of all-new 2020s, including: Buick Encore GX; Cadillac CT4 Premium Luxury, CT4 V Series and CT5 V Series; Chevrolet Corvette C8; Ford Escape, Explorer and GT500; Genesis GV80; Honda CRV Hybrid Touring; Hyundai Palisade, Sonata and Venue; Kia Telluride, Soul and Sportage; Lincoln Aviator and Corsair; Nissan Sentra and Titan; Porsche Taycan, Subaru Legacy and Outback; and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.

Chevrolet, FCA (Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep and Ram), Ford, Honda and Toyota will invite auto show attendees to test drive some of their newest cars and trucks at the Ride & Drive event, sponsored by Cumulus Radio Dallas.

“Ride and Drives just enhance the overall auto show experience, and they are more than just a ‘spin around the block’ these days,” Herring said. “Technology on vehicles is reaching a whole other level, so actually testing some of these new innovations can be especially valuable to consumers who may still be uncertain as which vehicle they want to buy.”

The CBS 11 Classic Car Corral will return to the 2020 Dallas Auto Show. Visitors will witness beautiful examples of automotive history, power and innovation on full display.  “From Mustangs to Mercurys and Corvettes to Camaros, the CBS 11 Classic Car Corral will not disappoint car enthusiasts,” said David Hershey, VP of creative services for CBS 11. Visitors also will be invited to stop by the CBS 11 tent to vote in the “People's Choice Award” competition. 

Following a highly successful first Auto Tech Competition at the 2019 Fort Worth Auto Show, Dallas will host an Auto Tech Competition on Saturday, March 21 that will focus on schools in Dallas, Collin, Ellis, Henderson, Hunt, Kaufman, Rockwall and Van Zandt counties.

Fifteen teams comprised of two high school seniors each were partnered with North Texas Automobile Dealers (NTXAD) new-car franchised dealerships to help them train for the competition. The day-long competition will have two Phases. Phase I will feature seven workstations designed to test the capabilities of the students. Phase II will be on-vehicle inspection and repair, where each team has an allotted amount of time in which to interpret, diagnose and repair a number of pre-assigned problems on the vehicle, based on the repair order for that vehicle. Each correctly repaired “bug” is worth a set number of points depending on the level of difficulty.

“The need for qualified automotive technicians in dealerships is nationwide, so the NTXAD is resolute in assisting our dealers in finding trained and skilled candidates to fill these positions. The Auto Tech Competition will give students the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of dealers, manufacturers, peers and family members,” said Brent Franks, president of the NTXAD.

The prize for each student on the first-place team is a financial award to support post-secondary automotive technology education at one of the three DCCCD programs (Brookhaven, Cedar Valley or Eastfield College), Collin College or Tarrant County College, generously provided by The Carroll Shelby Foundation. Each student on the first-, second- and third place teams will receive tool sets from Snap-on, valued at $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 respectively.

Hours of the show are: 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 18; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 19, 20 and 21; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 22.
