DART to Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Events 2024

AAPI Family Weekend at the ATT Performing Arts Center

May isAsian/Pacific American Heritage Month, and DART helps you celebrate by taking you to these DARTable events.

City Hall Celebration is hosted by the Asian American City Employees and the Bangladeshi American Community of Texas. On Thursday, May 9, at 11:40 a.m., Mayor Eric Johnson will lead a Bangladeshi flag dedication ceremony, followed by cultural performances, a fashion show, and food samples at noon in the lobby of Dallas City Hall. You can walk there from Akard Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from Convention Center Station on the Red and Blue lines.

AAPI Family Weekend is a free party in Sammons Park on Saturday, May 18, beginning at 10 a.m. The celebration includes Asian food trucks, vendors, local artisans, musical and dance performances, martial-arts demonstrations, and more. There will even be a traditional dragon dance. The park is in the heart of the Dallas Arts District, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines. It’s a block from the M-Line trolley.

ATT Discovery District AAPI CelebrationThe AT&T Discovery District is hosting  AANHPI Celebration on May 18 from 2-6 p.m. Dive into the rich and diverse cultures of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander heritage at the AT&T Discovery District! Join the AT&T Discover District on Saturday for their third annual celebration filled with fascinating performances, delicious food specials, and an eclectic mix of beats by our live DJ. The AT&T Discovery District is a short walk down Akard Street from Akard Station on all four DART Rail lines.

Fusion
celebrates Irving's many cultures with music, dance and food. Take in various eclectic live performances, enjoy a tasty treat from an array of food vendors, grab a beautiful henna tattoo or dance to live music. The free, family-friendly Fusion happens Saturday, May 18, from noon to 4 p.m. at Heritage Park. That’s a short walk from Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE). You can also get there on Bus Routes 25, 225, 227, 229, and 230.

Meals & Memories: A Community Tasting for Asian American & Pacific Islander Month takes place on Saturday, May 18 at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library in Dallas.  Celebrate with food, community, and conversation. Enjoy a selection of small plates created by Daisy Chuskul, chef and owner of Bangkok Inn, a family-owned restaurant serving Dallas since 1982. The library is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines. Click here to register.

Crow Museum of Asian Art honors Asian heritage all year long with a wide-ranging collection that includes a large number of jade objects from the Qing dynasty. Also don’t miss Japan, Form & Function: The Montgomery Collection, a landmark exhibition of more than 240 works of Japanese folk art. You’ll see metalware, textiles, ceramics, wooden sculptures, lacquerware and paintings. The Crow Collection is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, and is only a block from the M-Line trolley.
