Nothing says "Texas" like pecans – they come from our state tree, after all – and today is National Pecan Pie day. These DARTable destinations offer a great slice of Texas.
The pecan pies at
Emporium Pies happen to be the baker’s favorite, and that’s little surprise: It features a shortbread crust and a sauce of butter, bourbon, brown sugar and Texas pecans. To get this slice of perfection, hit either of their DARTable locations – the original is in Bishop Arts, which you can get to on the Dallas Streetcar; there, you’ll also find favorite sweets shops such as
CocoAndré Chocolatier, which has some of the finest hand-crafted chocolate delights around. Of course, the original location of local institution
Dude, Sweet Chocolate is in Bishop Arts, too; they also have a location near Downtown Plano Station. Emporium Pies’ second DARTable location is in Deep Ellum, located near Baylor University Medical Center Station.
Sammy’s Bar-B-Q is definitely a contender for best pecan pie in town. It’s always fresh, homemade and bursting with nutty goodness. If you really want to be indulgent – and why not, it’s a national holiday, right? – be sure to order yours a la mode. Sammy’s is in Uptown just about a block from the M-Line Trolley.
Wonderful World of Cooking is a classic tea room and restaurant offering a variety of homemade desserts, including a delicious slice of Kentucky Derby Pie – a chocolate fudge pecan pie that is not to be missed. It’s a short walk from Downtown Carrollton Station.
