This three-day weekend has lots of DARTable happenings in store for North Texans.
Friday, Dec. 29
It’s the opening night of Pegasus Theatre’s production of
A Minor Case of Murder at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson. World-famous detective and aspiring actor Harry Hunsacker enlists his best friend Nigel Grouse – as well as the long-suffering Detective Lieutenant Foster – to solve one of his most puzzling cases ever. Will good win the day, or will the forces of evil triumph? Check it out and see. The Eisemann Center is located steps from Galatyn Park Station.
You only have a little more than a week left to see
Tom Sachs: Tea Ceremony, a fascinating exhibit at the Nasher Sculpture Center. Sachs' distinctive reworking of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony includes a tea house in a garden accessorized with lanterns, gates, a koi pond, a bronze bonsai made of over 3,600 individually welded parts, and an ultra-high-definition video wall featuring images of Mt. Fuji. The Nasher Sculpture Center is a three-block walk from Pearl/Arts District Station, and also is accessible via D-Link (Route 722) and the M-Line Trolley.
Saturday, Dec. 30
Also nearing its end – for the year, at least – is a beloved local holiday tradition.
The Trains at NorthPark has more model trains than you’ve likely seen in one place, traveling on a third of a mile of track. If you haven’t seen this spectacle yet this year, today would be a great day to catch it! The NorthPark Center Shuttle (Route 702) departs frequently from Park Lane Station.
The last performance of
The Three Musketeers, presented by Theatre Britain at the Cox Building Playhouse in the Downtown Plano Arts District, takes place tonight. It’s an old-fashioned, rip-roaring melodrama in which the audience is encouraged to cheer for the good guys, boo and hiss the bad guys, and join in with the characters on stage. Children can easily follow and appreciate the story, and there’s plenty of more sophisticated wit aimed at adults. Get there by taking the Red Line to Downtown Plano Station.
Sunday, Dec. 31
It’s New Year’s Eve! To make sure your night ends safely, Miller Lite and DART have teamed up to provide free rides on all buses, trains, paratransit services and even the TRE as far west as CentrePort/DFW Airport Station. Take up the complimentary offer and enjoy a responsible ride from 6 p.m. through the end of service – no passes required.
And what a New Year’s Eve it will be, with Reunion Tower, Hunt Realty and AT&T collaborating to bring a Texas-sized New Year's Eve event to Dallas.
AT&T Streaming Lights at Reunion Tower is a 360-degree, panoramic fireworks spectacular that will light up the Dallas sky starting at 11:59 p.m. You want to be dazzled? More than 4,000 pyrotechnic special effects – with the magnificent downtown skyline as a backdrop – ought to do the trick. Many locations around town will host watch parties; the best vantage points are on the west side of the Trinity River, along the levees, and at Trinity Overlook Park or Trinity Groves. Bus Routes 12, 32, 52 and 59 all take you to the sweet spot, but since none of these bus routes run after midnight, you might want to Lyft or Uber home. Of course, Downtown Dallas itself offers plenty of great viewing opportunities, and is served by all four light rail lines plus the TRE. Due to safety requirements, the Reunion Park lawn near Union Station will be closed to the public.
Monday, Jan. 1
Day 1 Dallas at Fair Park is a free event designed to bring together children and families on New Year's Day. The event features entertainment, food vendors and a variety of children's activities, culminating in a spectacular firework show. Make plans to celebrate at Fair Park, served by Fair Park and MLK, Jr. stations.
