Happy Thanksgiving weekend! With a little luck, it’s a four-day affair for you, but even if not, there’s plenty to do that’s DARTable – both before and after the feast.

The Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is a tradition for many North Texans. It’s been around something like a half-century. The event offers an 8-mile run and a 5K run/walk in a celebratory, family-friendly atmosphere. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. at Dallas City Hall Plaza, and the main run starts at 9 a.m. City Hall is only about a 6-minute walk south from Akard Station on all four DART Rail lines. Proceeds support the YMCA. #DART2Trot

Friday, Nov. 29

The Dallas Stars hit the ice to take on the St. Louis Blues tonight at American Airlines Center. Face-off is at 7:30 p.m. Take the Green Line to Victory Station, and you’re right at the arena.

The Nutcracker opens tonight at the Eisemann Center for a three-day run. The Chamberlain Performing Arts’ version of the seasonal classic features two New York City Ballet principal dancers and choreography by the legendary George Balanchine. To visit the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Mouse King, take the Red Line to Galatyn Park Station. The venue is just across the plaza.

Saturday, Nov. 30

Cirque Holidays is a marriage of circus and theater arts. There are death-defying feats, high-flying acrobatics, clowns and more. The show celebrates holiday traditions throughout the world, making it a perfect way to ring in the season. And since cirque means circus in French, it’s probably super artsy, too. Performances run through Dec. 22 at Addison’s WaterTower Theatre, near Addison Transit Center.

Sunday, Dec. 1

Origins: Fossils from the Cradle of Humankind is the Perot Museum of Nature and Science’s current, awesome exhibit. See fossils of two recently discovered ancient human relatives that were the biggest news since Lucy. The team that unearthed the fossils in South Africa included the Perot Museum’s own Becca Peixotto. The exhibit is a pretty big deal. Get there by taking any DART Rail line to Akard Station and walking a few blocks north. Origins runs through March 22.

The Thanksgiving Play is a satire about a troupe of woke teaching artists struggling to create a pageant that celebrates both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month. The wickedly funny take on a modern American culture closes after today’s matinee. Catch it at the Undermain Theatre, a short walk from Baylor University Medical Center Station.
