Lots of DARTable activities going on this weekend – from The Rustic tempting young professionals to skip out early on work Friday, to the DMA hosting another of its excellent family events Sunday. Let’s jump in:

Friday, June 2

Young Professionals Skip Day is a great excuse to leave the office early. But you don’t have to: the fun is from 3-11 p.m. There will be live music by Paul Cauthen & Friends – a Johnny Cash-influenced outfit that has opened for the likes of Willie Nelson, and gotten some column-inches in Rolling Stone magazine. Opening bands include Dan Dyer and Matthew McNeal. It all happens at The Rustic, right next to Cityplace/Uptown Station and the turntable of the M-Line Trolley.

Fair Park Sparks is a free family event that includes – as you might have guessed – a fireworks display. There also is a fountain show, roving entertainers, live music, an art gallery, food trucks, a wine bar, and a children's area with activities, face painting and the like. All in all, it’s the perfect way to celebrate the end of school and the beginning of summer. Take the Green Line to Fair Park Station.

Saturday, June 3

Target First Saturdays are fun, family-oriented events at the Nasher Sculpture Center that are totally free. Bring the kids and enjoy this month’s “big idea,” Detail, and its associated art project: Detail Portrait. Not only will it bring out your children’s artistic talents, it will broaden their appreciation of art and the world. Target First Saturdays are designed especially for children in preschool to elementary school. It starts at 10 a.m. The Nasher is a short walk from St. Paul Station and can also be accessed by the M-Line Trolley.

Uptown Family Fest at West Village is a mini-festival for parents and kids. Free activities include a balloon artist, face painting, stilt walkers, live music and more. It happens from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The West Village is a three-block walk from Cityplace/Uptown Station and is also on the M-Line.

Dallas Museum of Art’s Family Days offers family-friendly activities inspired by the museum's popular "México 1900–1950: Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, José Clemente Orozco, and the Avant-Garde." Admission to the exhibition is free, as it is to the DMA’s two new ones: "Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion" and "Visions of America: Three Centuries of Prints from the National Gallery of Art." The events take place between 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and include music in the atrium and pop-up art spots offering hands-on art experiences. The DMA is near both St. Paul Station and the M-Line Trolley.
