Parade of Playhouses opens Friday and runs through July 15. The exhibition at NorthPark Center showcases children's playhouses designed by architects. You can even win one if you purchase a raffle ticket! Take the Red Line to Park Lane Station, and then hop the NorthPark Center Shuttle (Bus Route 702).

Friday, June 29–Tuesday, July 3

Talented African filmmakers will be at The African Film Festival. The festival screens African independent films that explore the continent’s culture and geography. There will also be acting workshops, a symposium and an awards show.

Events Friday through Sunday will be at the African American Museum, a short walk from Fair Park Station on the Green Line. On Monday, events will take place at Dallas Hall on the SMU campus, accessible by SMU Express (Route 768) or Museum Express (Route 743). They both depart from Mockingbird Station.

The festival moves to Moody Performance Hall on Tuesday. Get there by taking a short walk from Pearl/Arts District Station or catching the D-Link (Route 722).

Saturday, June 30

Plano’s Movies in the Park has got a family-friendly favorite lined up: “LEGO Ninjago.” You’re encouraged to come in costume, and food trucks will be on site. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs. The film rolls at 6:30 p.m. in Haggard Park, next to Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.

Garland's Sounds of Summer Concert Series is another fun, free day outdoors. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., food and craft vendors will line the downtown square. At 7:30 p.m., Mars Hill Band – a high-energy cover band – will take the stage, and there will be fireworks at sundown. The square is a short stroll from Downtown Garland Station.

A little chamber music makes for a peaceful Sunday. The Basically Beethoven Festival, presented by Fine Arts Chamber Players is free at 2:30 p.m. every Sunday in July. This week features an eclectic program: Ravel, Haydn, Beethoven, and more. The concerts are at the Moody Performance Hall in the Dallas Arts District, a short walk from Pearl/Arts District Station. Or you can catch the D-Link (Route 722) to San Jacinto and Pearl streets, then walk a few blocks.
