Whether you’re in the mood for a Polynesian party or pop stylings from Stockholm, you can hop on DART this weekend to get there. There are theater opening and lots of other DARTable stuff going on, too.

Friday, July 19

Mockingbird Music Festival is a cool way to kick off your weekend. The performances take place from 4-7 p.m. just off the mezzanine of Mockingbird Station on the Red, Blue and Orange lines. Stop by to catch the sounds of singer-songwriter Ryan Berg, who in recent years has risen through the ranks in the local music scene. You can grab a bite while you’re there, too – there’s even free cotton candy.

There’s also a trio of DARTable theater openings tonight.

Boeing, Boeing is set in the 1960s. A swinging bachelor living the jet-set life in Paris has three lovely stewardesses in his life – none of whom know of the others. But a sleek new Boeing jet brings all three to Paris at the same time. Ladies and gentlemen, we will be experiencing some turbulence at the Irving Arts Center. The venue is accessible by Bus Route 401, which departs from North Lake College Station on the Orange Line. The play runs through Aug. 3.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is the classic story of Adam, the eldest of seven backwoods brothers. Having taken a wife himself, Adam sets out to help his brothers find wives for themselves. Garland Summer Musicals puts on this time-tested piece of Americana through July 28 at the Granville Arts Center right next to the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station. DART Rail station.

Mamma Mia! opened Wednesday, but this is the first weekend of its run. The story concerns a young woman in search of her birth father. The play has it all – or at least it has a sunny Greek island, a mother, a daughter, three possible dads and a trip down the aisle. And, of course, the timeless, infectious songs of the Swedish pop phenoms known as ABBA. Catch the hit musical at The Firehouse Theatre, right across the street from the Green Line’s Farmers Branch Station. It runs through Aug. 11.

Saturday, July 20

Addison After Dark is an evening of live music, food trucks and other fun stuff that happens every third Saturday. The free event has a different theme each go-around. This month it’s “Luau on the Lawn,” and there will be a hula show, a steel drum band and more. Wear your loudest Hawaiian shirt to Addison Circle Park, a short walk from Addison Transit Center, served by numerous bus routes. The fun starts at 7 p.m.

Sunday, July 21

Basically Beethoven Festival is an amazing concert series that’s put on for free by the Fine Arts Chamber Players. The events happen Sunday afternoons through July. Today’s concert features a Rising Star Recital at 2:30 p.m. with Ishan Loomba, a 2019 Junior Cliburn competitor. The Feature Performance at 3 p.m. is a string quartet with Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra connections. It happens at the Moody Performance Hall in the Dallas Arts District; to get there, catch any DART rail line to Pearl/Arts District Station and take about an 8- or 9-minute walk.

Summer Survivor Speaker Series features the testimonies of holocaust survivors, refugees and children. The Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance hosts the series. Today, Bert Romberg speaks at 12:30 p.m. Romberg is a German who was on a Kindertransport that rescued Jewish children and brought them to the United Kingdom. There he learned a new language and way of life before being reunited with his family and moving to the United States. The venue is a short walk from West End Station on all fur DART Rail lines.

Building a Better Experience for You!

DART is making major improvements. To create a smoother ride through downtown Dallas and reduce service interruptions, track improvements are under way and will continue until September. During that time, DART Rail in Downtown Dallas will be discontinued each weekend between Pearl/Arts District and West End stations. Bus bridges will be in operation. DART.org/plus
