The holidays are officially under way, and there is a host of events going on throughout the DART Service Area. Holiday tree lightings, parades, lightings – there are numerous joyous events happening on Saturday, Dec. 7, alone. To explore the region’s holiday offerings this weekend – and beyond – click here.
Elsewhere, there are numerous celebrations and performances, many (but not all) of them holiday themed. Read on to find out where DART can take you this weekend.
Thursday, Dec. 5-Sunday, Dec. 8
Vocal Majority Christmas Show celebrates the season with the chorus’ annual holiday spectacular. Hear festive carols and timeless Christmas classics at the Eisemann Center. That’s right across the plaza from Galatyn Park Station on the Red Line.
Friday, Dec. 6
Rockin’ Around the Circle is Addison Circle’s lineup of festive seasonal events. Tonight: the Tree Lighting Ceremony. The park is transformed into a winter wonderland, and the Emerald City All Stars perform a mix of holiday tunes and high-energy hits. There are also carriage rides, hot cocoa, and Santa Claus. DART will be on hand with our Stuff A Bus, so we encourage you to bring new and unwrapped adult socks, blankets, canned food and toys. See you there! Addison Circle Park is near Addison Transit Center – served by DART Bus Routes 22, 200, 202, 227, 229, 235, 236, 237, 238, 239, 240, and 305.
Dallas Trail of Lights features the world’s largest light tunnel – a pathway glowing with millions of lights. Other activities include a carousel, a Ferris wheel, an ice slide, a giant snow foam pit, and a drone show featuring holiday scenes. You can also get a cup of hot cocoa, a photo opp with Santa, and more. The event takes place through Christmas Day just south of Reunion Tower on Sport Street. That’s easily accessible from EBJ Union Station on the Red and Blue lines, as well as the TRE.
Music Made Here is a concert series in the recently renovated Downtown Garland Square. Along with the concerts, visitors can enjoy bites from local restaurants. Tonight, catch Marina Dallas of the Dallas Christmas Carolers. The square is a short walk from Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.
Little Women is a musical based on the famous novel (which has also been made into no fewer than six film adaptations). See the coming-of-age story of four sisters through Dec. 21 at Granville Arts Center, right next to Downtown Garland Station.
Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. The beloved classic of musical theater runs through Dec. 22 at The Firehouse Theatre, a short walk from the Green Line’s Farmers Branch Station.
Deck the Plaza is a festive extravaganza filled with free live music, children's activities, a tree lighting ceremony and fireworks. Delicious offerings are available from a variety of food trucks. Celebrate the magic of the season with the City of Dallas at City Hall Plaza. That’s walkable from Akard Station on all four DART Rail lines.
Friday, Dec. 6-Saturday, Dec. 7
Black on Black is an intimate evening with Dallas Black Dance Theatre. This showcase of never-seen-before- premiere works is choreographed exclusively by Dallas Black Dance Theatre dancers. Enjoy a pre-show reception featuring light bites and refreshments, and an afterparty with a live DJ. The performance happens at DBDT Studios in the Dallas Arts District. You can walk there from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines. Bus route 3 runs frequently, and drops you off just a few feet away.
Saturday, Dec. 7-Sunday, Dec. 8
The Nutcracker rings in the holiday season with humor, tradition, and splendor. Ballet Ensemble of Texas’ production features guest artists Breanne Granlund and Carlos Gonzalez, who are soloists with American Ballet Theatre. Dancers from the Ballet Academy of Texas will also be part of the production. See it at Irving Arts Center, served by bus route 229.
Saturday, Dec. 7
Dallas Holiday Parade has become a holiday tradition for thousands of families throughout North Texas. The show stopping event takes place from 9-11 a.m. The parade runs on Commerce, Harwood and Young streets. Access the event via Union Station on the Red and Blue lines, plus the Trinity Railway Express (TRE); or West End, Akard and St. Paul stations, each on all four DART Rail lines. DART will also have a music station at EBJ Union Station. Join us for live music and hot chocolate before the parade!
Free First Saturdays returns to the Nasher Sculpture Center this Saturday. Look, learn and love your time at the Nasher. Bring the whole crew to create, discover and make new memories together. Each month features a rotating schedule of things to see and do. The Nasher Sculpture Center is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.
