It’s a big weekend – maybe the big weekend – for runners. And throughout North Texas, holiday events are in full swing.

The BMW Dallas Marathon Festival is a whole weekend of events, beginning with the Friday Night Lights Mile, followed by a 5K and 10K races on Saturday, and culminating with full, half and ultra-marathons on Sunday. It all centers on Dallas City Hall Plaza, a short walk from Akard Station on all four DART Rail lines or EBJ Union Station on the Red Line, Blue Line and Trinity Railway Express (TRE; no Sunday service). Check out the website for more details.

The rest of the weekend’s DARTable events, not surprisingly, have a holiday theme. Get in the spirit and get on DART to these seasonal happenings:

Thursday, Dec. 9-Sunday, Dec. 12

Enchant Christmas is a unique adventure that includes millions of twinkling lights, art installations and an enchanted forest. There’s also an ice-skating trail, gourmet holiday treats and an artisanal Christmas market. It all happens at the esplanade at Fair Park – near Fair Park Station on the Green Line.

Friday, Dec. 10-Sunday, Dec 12

The Nutcracker needs no introduction. You’ll find Clara, her nutcracker, the Sugar Plum Fairy and the rest in Dallas Repertoire Ballet’s production of the time-honored classic. Performances take place at the Eisemann Center, just across the plaza from the Red Line’s Galatyn Park Station.

Saturday, Dec. 11

The Trains at NorthPark is the largest miniature train exhibit in Texas, and a Saturday in December is the perfect time to catch them. Watch 750 railcars circle a third of a mile of tracks, passing through New England, California and many points between. Take the Orange or Red line to Park Lane Station, and then board the NorthPark Shuttle (Bus Route 702).

Saturdays on the Square continues the holiday theme in Downtown Carrollton, with holiday tunes and gift wrapping from 5-7 p.m. The quaint neighborhood is a short walk south from Downtown Carrollton Station on the Green Line.

Sunday, Dec. 12

Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas is a charming show with stories and vignettes culled from the works of popular author Robert Fulghum. Often funny, sometimes touching, the show is being put on by Garland Civic Theatre at the Granville Arts Center. That’s right next to the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station. The theater company also is sponsoring a food drive, with non-perishable food item donations gratefully accepted. All donations will benefit the Good Samaritans of Garland.
