Ride DART to musicals, concerts, and festivals this beautiful spring weekend. Check out all that DART can get you to.
Friday, April 7
Hello, Dolly! is the classic musical about a meddling matchmaker in turn-of-the-century New York City. See it at The Firehouse Theatre through April 26. The venue is a short walk from the Green Line’s Farmers Branch Station.
Spamalot the musical takes Monty Python and the Holy Grail as the starting point for an outrageously entertaining evening of musical theater. King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table are here, of course, along with showgirls, cows, and killer rabbits. The play opens tonight and runs through April 16 at the Courtyard Theater, just across Haggard Park from Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.
Music on Main takes place in Irving’s Heritage Park each Friday evening in April. You can grab dinner before the show from one of several food vendors or eat at one of the restaurants in the Heritage District. Music starts at 7 p.m. This night check out the Tejano and country sounds of Squeezebox. The park is a couple of blocks from Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).
Friday, April 7-Saturday, April 8
CityLine Live is a live-music series in the plaza at Richardson’s CityLine that takes place every Friday and Saturday through April and May. There are nearby restaurant patios perfect for enjoying the show, or you can get your dinner and drinks to go. On Friday evening, hear the blues-rock stylings of Shawn Pittman. On Saturday, check out singer-songwriter Carly Carroll. Performances start at 6 p.m. Take the Red Line to CityLine/Bush Station.
Friday, April 7-Sunday, April 9
Dallas Reggae Festival is a family-friendly event with lots of unique vendors. You’ll find arts, crafts, and jewelry vendors, along with Caribbean food and – of course – lots of reggae. Experience the food and music of the Caribbean at Addison Circle Park, a short walk from Addison Transit Center, which is served by many bus routes.
Saturday, April 8
Afro Mingei: DJ Nights is a weekly event at Afro Mingei – a one-of-a-kind exhibit at the Nasher Sculpture Center that explores the intersection of Japanese and African American culture. The project doubles as a gathering space, and tonight, artist Theaster Gates has invited DFW-area DJs to spin records from his collection of 1,000 R&B, soul, and funk albums. The event happens from 6-8 p.m. You can easily walk to the Nasher Sculpture Center from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or the museum is also barely a block from the M-Line Trolley.
Dallas Spring Arts Festival features a diverse lineup of dance and music from North Texas artists, with performances and interactive activities. Perfect for all ages, the multicultural celebration features storytellers, musicians, singers, dancers, poets, and visual artists. The festival takes place at Klyde Warren Park from 1-5 p.m. The park is about a 10-minute walk from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, or the M-Line Trolley drops you off right at the lawn.
