Classic popular music seems to be a theme this weekend – from disco to Tejano to classic rock, you can get to them all on DART. There’s a lot of other stuff, too. Check out this week’s DARTable offerings.

Thursday, May 11

The 22+ Weddings of Hugo Multiple follows a postal clerk who tends to get married. The humorous tale delves into themes of empathy, immigration, and finding love in times of hatred. The play opens Thursday night and runs through May 27 at the Latino Cultural Center. The venue is right down the street from the Green Line’s Deep Ellum Station.

Friday, May 12

Up the Creek - Photo Courtesy of Facebook (1)Band Together on the Square is a diverse free concert series that happens every Friday evening in Downtown Garland through July. This Friday night, check out the country-meets-classic-rock quartet Up the Creek. The show takes place at 506 Art, at the corner of Fifth and Main streets. That’s three blocks from Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.

Pop of Art: Knights Who Say “Ni” is a unique way to experience the Dallas Museum of Art’s collection. Guests explore as a member of King Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table and hunt for various items and images throughout the museum, while decorating a medieval-style illuminated text. The event includes lectures, comedy performances, a screening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and more. The DMA is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, and is even closer to the M-Line trolley.

Selena Forever celebrates the life and legacy of the Queen of Tejano with a performance by tribute band Selena Forever Tribute. The group is one of the most sought-after Latin tribute bands in the nation. You’ll hear all the hits at Irving Arts Center. Get there on Bus Route 229, departing from the Orange Line’s Dallas College North Lake Campus Station.

Saturday Night Fever was one of the defining movies of the late 1970s, and now it’s a musical on stage. Go back to the land of disco balls, platform shoes and wide collars in a much grittier New York City as Tony Manero comes of age. And dances while doing it. The production features all of the Bee Gees hits from the movie, plus some new original songs. The play opens this Friday night and runs through May 28. Catch the performance at The Firehouse Theatre, a short walk from the Green Line’s Farmers Branch Station.

Friday, May 12-Saturday, May 13

CityLine Live is a live-music series in the plaza at Richardson’s CityLine that takes place every Friday and Saturday through May. There are nearby restaurant patios perfect for enjoying the show, or you can get your dinner and drinks to go. On Friday evening, hear the rock-pop stylings of John Herbert. On Saturday, check out the blues rock of Devin Leigh. Take the Red Line to CityLine/Bush Station.

Denton Drive LiveSaturday, May 13

Denton Drive Live! features The Elton Johns, a tribute to you-know-who, and Hard Night’s Day, one of the region’s premier Beatles tribute bands. The happens at The Grove at Mustang Station, walkable from Farmers Branch Station on the Green Line.
