The best local and national jazz, blues and soul talent takes two stages from Friday through Sunday. Headliners include Stephanie Mills, Michael Franks, Hubert Laws, Stanley Clarke, and Morris Day and the Time. Of course, there will be vendor booths and awesome food to go along with the music. Hop on the Red or Blue lines to Convention Center Station, and the whole festival lies a few steps away.

Friday, Sept. 1

Movies on Main is Irving’s free outdoor movie series, and this Friday evening, they’re screening a classic: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. A gentle alien, stranded on Earth, befriends a 10-year-old boy. The movie starts at 7:30 p.m.; go early and grab a bite in the Irving Heritage District or from one of the on-site food vendors. The movie is at Heritage Park, a short walk from Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).

Glenn Danzig, singer/songwriter of The Original Misfits, comes to Irving’s The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory to celebrate the 35th anniversary of his debut album. He’ll play the piece in its entirety. The venue is walkable from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station. You can also take Bus Route 227.

Lionel Richie with Earth Wind & Fire both come to Dallas in support of Richie’s Sing a Song All Night Long tour. He’ll draw from his 11-album catalog at American Airlines Center. Taking the Green Line to Victory Station is the most convenient way to get there.

The Seagull is the theatrical classic by Chekhov, presented by (fittingly) The Classics Theatre Project. The play follows a group of artists on a secluded estate as they confront unrequited love, professional competition, and various personal hang-ups. See the all-time great play through Sept. 24 at Addison Conference and Theatre Centre. The venue is walkable from Addison Transit Center – served by DART Bus Routes 22, 200, 202, 227, 229, 235, 236, 237, 238, 239, 240, and 305.

Karol G comes to Dallas in support of her new album, Manana Sera Bonito. See the Colombian singer – whose style encompasses reggaeton, Latin trap, and sertanejo – at the Cotton Bowl. Get to the Cotton Bowl by taking the Green Line to Fair Park Station.
