It’s a big weekend in North Texas. That’s because The State Fair of Texas opens on Friday, and runs through Oc. 22. Get ready for 24 days of Big Tex, corny dogs, and Midway rides. Plus tons more, of course, ranging from butter sculptures to pig races to performances from big-time musicians. DART takes you straight to the gate – and straight to the savings, too. You’ll save $5 on fair admission Monday-Friday and $7 on Saturdays and Sundays. To get the discount, simply enter the promo code 23DART when buying your admission on the State Fair’s website.

There are lots of other DARTable options, as well. Check out where DART can take you this weekend.

We Have IreFriday, Sept. 29-Sunday, Oct. 1

We Have Iré is a bilingual, musical play about the triumphant journeys of artists from Cuba’s countryside to the United States and back. Their stories come to life through Afro-Caribbean music, contemporary dance, spoken word, storytelling and jazz. Check out the performance for three performances only at the Latino Cultural Center, just down the street from the Green Line’s Deep Ellum Station.

Friday, Sept. 29

Mariachi Herencia de Mexico brings a fresh, vibrant take on mariachi to the Eisemann Center. Along with special guest La Marisoul, the group honors the past, celebrates the present, and creates the future of Mexican music. The venue is just across the plaza from Galatyn Park Station on the Red Line.

Carrollton World of Foodies Event

Saturday, Sept. 30

World of Foodies lets you enjoy international foods, browse vendors with culturally themed specialties, and experience a world of culture and cuisine. There is live music, along with international games. Get to Historic Downtown Carrollton by taking the Green Line to Downtown Carrollton Station.

Bondage is the surreal tale of an enslaved girl who dares to follow her own instincts toward liberation. Hierarchies of race and gender collide on a haunted plantation in the antebellum South. See the performance through Oct. 15 at the Undermain Theatre, a short walk from Baylor University Medical Center Station on the Green Line.

DFW Dragon Boat Kite and Lantern Festival

Sunday, Oct. 1

DFW Dragon Boat, Kite and Lantern Festival comes to the shores of Lake Carolyn. It’s one of our region’s most colorful celebrations, featuring dragon boat races, performers, a kite-flying competition and more. Get to the Lake by taking the Orange Line to Las Colinas Urban Center Station.

Depeche Mode comes to Dallas in support of their new album, Memento Mori. See the pioneering electronic band at American Airlines Center, served by Victory Station. The venue is accessible by the Green Line, Orange Line, or Trinity Railway Express (TRE).
