The Dallas Museum of Art has a long history of supporting our city’s visual arts. Originally, the Dallas Art Association was founded in 1903 and exhibitions were held at the Dallas Public Library on Saturdays. The DAA moved into its first official facility, known as the Free Public Art Gallery of Dallas, at the state fairgrounds in 1909. Over the next 75 years the DAA moved to the Majestic Theatre for a brief period and the ninth floor of the Dallas Power and Light Company building for a short time before finally settling at its present location in 1984. Today, the DMA’s collection features over 22,000 pieces of art from all around the world. Permanent exhibits include pieces from Asia, Europe, Africa, ancient American and modern American. The museum has lots of great programs for all ages – yes, even toddlers! From Saturday Spotlight Tours, Late Nights at the DMA, gallery talks, and lectures, you’re bound to find an activity whenever you plan to go.
